Why Do We Feel Anxious?
Anxiety is actually our body's built-in survival alarm system .
Thousands of years ago, it kept our ancestors safe from real dangers like saber-toothed tigers by preparing them to Fight, Flight, or Freeze .
Fight, Flight, or Freeze Lucha, Huida o Parálisis
Your Body • Tu Cuerpo Slide 3
Physical Alarm Signals
When the alarm goes off, your brain sends signals that change how your body feels:
Heart beats faster (pumps blood to muscles)
Breathing gets shallow and fast
Muscles tense and get warm
Real vs. False Alarms
Real Alarm
An actual, immediate physical danger (e.g., a car speeding toward you).
False Alarm
An uncomfortable situation, not a danger (e.g., giving a presentation in class).
Alarmas Reales vs. Falsas
Alarma Real
The alarm feels identical; our thoughts make the difference!

They are often repetitive and run in loops , making us feel like danger is everywhere when it is not.

Just because you think something, doesn't make it 100% true.
Our brain is trying to protect us, so it often exaggerates problems. We must act as detectives to find the real truth.

Avoidance Feeds Anxiety
When we avoid things that make us anxious, we feel safe right now .
But in the long run, avoidance teaches our brain that we are helpless, making the anxiety grow larger and larger .
