Bounce Back Jr: Launch & Body Clues
Target: Grades K–1 Tier-2
Duration: 25 Minutes
Session Objective

Materials Needed
• Week 1 Jr Slides
• Crayons & Workbook
• Hand mirror / smiley prop

5. Badge Stamp & Chant
Group chant: “I feel my body clue, so I know what to do!” Stamp badge box.

Facilitator Scripting Stems (K–1)
Explaining Body Alarms:
“When a fire truck gets ready, its siren beeps! Your body has a friendly siren too. It says: ‘Look out! Mad feelings are getting bigger!’ If we catch that siren early, we can hit pause before we yell.”
Encouraging Drawing:
“You don't have to write long words. Just draw your face with hot cheeks or draw your hands squeezing into rocks! Every drawing is a great clue.”
K–1 Developmental Adaptation: Keep instructions to one or two steps. Use concrete visual props like having students physically squeeze a small squishy ball to feel the difference between "rock hands" and "melted hands."
Family Connection Letter School Counseling & Student Support
Welcome to Bounce Back Jr!
Family Partnership Guide
Grades K–1 Regulation Group
Dear Kindergarten and First Grade Families,
Your child has been invited to join our 6-week small group counseling program, Bounce Back Jr ! Kindergarten and first grade are foundational milestone years where young learners navigate classroom routines, sharing supplies, waiting turns, and big feelings.
Over the next six weeks, our group meets for 25 minutes once a week to learn hands-on calming resets, early body clue awareness, and flexible "noodle brain" problem-solving through play, movement, and visual practice.
What Your K–1 Child Will Learn
1
Week 1: Body Clues
Spotting early body alarms (fast heart, tight fists, hot cheeks).
2
Week 2: Trigger Traps
Reading the 1-to-5 feelings thermometer before heat reaches Level 5.
3
Week 3: Calm Toolkit
Belly balloon breaths, tactile finger tracing, and lemon squeeze melts.
4
Week 4: Flexible Thinking
Bending like a warm noodle to find a happy Plan B when plans change.
5
Week 5: Problem Solvers
Matching reactions to problem sizes: is it a tiny glitch or a mountain?
6
Week 6: Junior Champions
Celebrating growth with official certificates and pocket calm passes.
Try These 3 Phrases at Home
“What clue is your body giving you?” Helps young children pause and feel tight hands, hot cheeks, or fast breathing.
“Can our noodle brain find a Plan B?” Reminds your child that when something goes wrong, we can bend rather than snap like a rock.
“Is this a little glitch or a big mountain?” Helps kids match their reaction size to the real problem (e.g. a dropped crayon is just a glitch!).
Questions or Group Updates?
We love partnering with you to support your child’s emotional success!

Teaching the Feelings Meter:
“Level 1 is smiling calm like swimming in cool water. Level 3 is when your face gets warm. Level 5 is a big volcano blast! Can we catch our feelings while they are still small at Level 2?”
De-Stigmatizing Triggers:
“Everyone gets bugged by something. Even adults get mad when they lose their car keys! Identifying your trigger means you are super smart and in control.”
K–1 Active Engagement: Young students love physical roleplay. Have them make "Level 1" happy face, "Level 2" silly grumble face, and "Level 5" volcano pose (arms high, then shaking).

Leading Lemon Melt:
“Squeeze those sour lemons! Squeeze, squeeze, squeeze! Now drop them on the rug! Shake your hands out. Do they feel warm and loose like cooked noodles? That is what calm feels like.”
Tactile Regulation Tip: If a K–1 student struggles to keep their breath slow, have them trace along the physical ridges of the Desk Calm Mat with a textured crayon or their index finger.

Bounce Back Jr: Rock vs Noodle Brain

Demonstrating the Pasta Snap:
“Look at this dry stick of spaghetti. If I try to bend it... CRACK! It breaks in half! That is what happens when we say ‘My way or nothing!’ But look at this bendy noodle. It wiggles, bends, and stays happy.”
Coaching Disappointment First:
“It's okay to feel sad when Plan A doesn't happen. Give yourself one soft balloon breath, and then say to your brain: ‘Okay noodle brain, what is our Plan B?’”
Kinesthetic Anchoring: Give each K–1 student a bendy pipe cleaner to manipulate with their fingers while discussing Plan B. Physically twisting and shaping the pipe cleaner gives tangible reinforcement to cognitive flexibility.

When It Really IS a Mountain:
“If someone is bleeding, feeling sick, or unsafe, that is a true Big Mountain! We don't have to fix that alone—we march straight to an adult helper.”
Physical Movement Anchor: K–1 students thrive on physical gestures. Practice the "Glitch Shrug" (lift shoulders and drop) three times as a group so their bodies associate small setbacks with relaxed shoulders rather than tension.
