The Arrival Slides Revised Session 02
The Arrival
Showing Up is the Secret Weapon
The Foundation
Attendance is 80% of the battle.
"You can't play the game if you aren't on the field."
Why it matters:
Missed days take **3 days** to catch up.
Consistency builds teacher trust.
You miss the "unwritten" clues.
The Attendance Gap
The Challenge:
1. Everyone stand on the **Start Line**.
2. For every day you attend, take **2 steps forward**.
3. For every day you miss, take **3 steps backward**.
Look at the gap. How far apart are we?
The Barrier Audit
What stops the "Arrival"?
Sleep / Routine
Morning Chaos
Anxiety / Dread
The Rebound Goal:
We aren't aiming for "perfect." We're aiming for Progress.
Missed 10 days last month? Let's make it 5 this month.
The Sleep Trap
The Barrier
"Up until 2 AM scrolling/gaming. Slept through my alarm and now I feel too tired to function."
Rebound Strategy
**Phone Jail:** Charge it in the kitchen.
**2-Alarm Method:** One near, one far.
The Morning Maze
The Barrier
"Couldn't find my shoes, laptop wasn't charged, and I missed the bus by 30 seconds."
Rebound Strategy
**The Launchpad:** Pack the bag at 9 PM.
**Charge Station:** Plug in before you sleep.
The "Behind" Mindset
The Barrier
"I missed Monday and Tuesday. I'm so far behind now, what's even the point of going?"
Rebound Strategy
**The 5-Min Entry:** Just get in the door.
**Voice the Ask:** Email: "I'm back. What's priority #1?"

The Study Myth
"Reading is Not studying."
Your brain only keeps what it has to USE.
The Gold Standard:
**Active Recall:** Test yourself first.
**Spaced Repetition:** Small bursts often.
The Study Hack Circuit
Station 1
Mind Mapping
Draw connections. Build a web of ideas. Visual memory is a superpower.
Station 2
Blurting
Read for 1 min. Write everything you know for 1 min. No peaking!
Station 3
Teach the Wall
Explain it out loud. If you can teach it, you own the knowledge.
The Rebound Science
Neural Paths
When your brain struggles to find an answer, it makes the "neural road" wider and stronger. **Easy studying = Fast forgetting.**
The Filter
Your brain deletes 70% of new info within 24 hours. **Spaced Repetition** tells your brain: "Wait, don't delete this! I'm still using it!"
Work Harder,
Study Less
Active Recall is exhausting because it's **working.** 20 minutes of Active Recall beats 2 hours of reading.

Mind Mapping
How to do it:
Write the Main Topic in a circle in the center of your page.
Draw large Branches for each major sub-topic or big idea.
Add small Twigs for specific details, dates, or vocabulary.
Use Colors and Icons to help your brain group information visually.
Real-Life Example:
Subject: Science (The Water Cycle)
**Center:** The Water Cycle
**Branch 1:** Evaporation (Sun, Ocean)
**Branch 2:** Condensation (Clouds, Cooling)
**Branch 3:** Precipitation (Rain, Snow)

Blurting Method
How to do it:
Read one page of your textbook or notes for 2 minutes.
CLOSE THE BOOK. Hide your notes.
**BLURT:** Grab a blank page and write down Everything you remember.
Open the book. Use a Red Pen to add what you missed.
Real-Life Example:
Subject: English (Vocabulary List)
"I read 10 vocab definitions. I closed the list and only 'blurted' out 6 of them. I marked the other 4 in red. Next time, I'll focus only on those 4!"
Don't just read it. Prove you know it.
Study Hack Station
Station 03
03
Teach the Wall
How to do it:
Pick a concept or rule you think you know.
Stand up. Face a wall (or a group member).
Explain the concept Out Loud in simple, easy-to-understand words.
If you get stuck or say "Um," that's where your knowledge has a Hole. Go back and fix it!
Real-Life Example:
Subject: Math (Order of Operations)
"I explained PEMDAS to the wall. I realized I wasn't sure if Multiply always comes before Divide. I checked my notes and saw they are a team! The wall found my mistake."
If you can teach it, you own it.
The Rebound Secret
Spaced Repetition
Your brain is like a bucket with a tiny hole. If you fill it once (cramming), it leaks out. To keep it full, you must refill it Regularly.

Activity: Time Thief Tag
The Objective
Students (The Scholars) must navigate from the "Start of Semester" to the "Deadline" while avoiding "Time Thieves" who try to tag them and send them back to the start or delay their progress.
Setup
Define two boundaries: **Start Line** and **Deadline**.
Assign 2-3 students as **Time Thieves**. They wear the labels (see Page 2).
Scholars hold a "Assignment" (a piece of paper or folder).
The Rules
Scholars move at a "Walking" pace (no running!).
If a Thief tags a Scholar, the Scholar is "Distracted."
Distracted Scholars must return to the Start Line OR perform 5 jumping jacks (The "Catch-Up" Task).
Phase 2: The Master Plan Upgrade
After a few rounds of "Chaos Mode," introduce the **Master Plan**. Give Scholars "Shields" (Backwards Planning blue-prints). If they have a plan, they can freeze for 5 seconds when a Thief approaches, making them untaggable during that "Focus Window."
Debrief Questions
"Which Time Thief was the hardest to dodge?"
"How did it feel when you were almost at the Deadline but got sent back?"
"How did having a 'Plan Shield' change your strategy?"
"What is one 'Time Thief' you need to dodge in real life this week?"
