Resource & Support Guide
The District School Social Worker is here to help students feel safe, supported, connected, and ready to learn. The School Social Worker serves as a vital link between home, school, and community by supporting students’ academic, social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs. We partner with students, families, school staff, and community agencies to remove barriers to learning and connect families with helpful resources.
What does the Social Worker do?
Services and support include:
- Individual student support
- Small group support & student groups
- Crisis support and safety planning
- Social, emotional, behavioral, or attendance help
- Family support, calls, and conferences
- Connection to school & community resources
- Collaboration with teachers & outside agencies
- Support for positive, safe school climate
- Learning opportunities for families & staff
Assesses needs, develops plans, and advocates for student success.
When should families reach out?
Reach out for support when needing help with:
- Attendance or school engagement
- Stress, grief, conflict, transitions, or crisis
- Mental health, emotional, or behavioral concerns
- Housing instability or uncertain living
- Foster care, kinship care, or custody support
- Food, clothing, hygiene supplies, or transport
- Creating custom plans for student success

Specialized Support Roles
The District School Social Worker also serves in several critical district roles:
McKinney-Vento Liaison
Housing Support
Supports students in transitional living (staying with others due to housing loss, financial hardship, shelters, motels, campgrounds, or unaccompanied status).
Immediate Enrollment Free School Meals Transportation Support School of Origin Rights
Foster Care Liaison
Stability
Maintains educational stability for students in foster care. Assists with enrollment, school records, school-of-origin decisions, transportation, caregivers, schools, and agency communication.
Handle With Care Liaison
Trauma Support
Coordinates a caring school response when a student may have experienced a stressful or traumatic event outside of school. Staff respond with compassion, flexibility, and immediate supportive care.
Caring Closet & Pantry Coordinator
Basic Needs
Provides support items including hygiene and personal care, clothing, school supplies, food/snacks, and non-perishable groceries for families in need.
