Family Resource Guide
The District School Social Worker (SSW) serves as a vital link between home, school, and community. By supporting students’ academic, social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs, the School Social Worker partners with families, school staff, and community agencies to remove barriers to learning and connect students to necessary resources.
School Social Worker Services
Comprehensive interventions to support student well-being and active learning:
- • Individual Support: Targeted academic, social, emotional, and behavioral check-ins.
- • Group Programs: Small group support focusing on student coping skills and relationship building.
- • Crisis Support: Immediate crisis response, mental health intervention, and personalized safety planning.
- • Family Outreach: Support through parent meetings, phone calls, progress conferences, and home referrals.
- • Staff Collaboration: Partnering with teachers, administrators, and counselors to assist classroom needs.
Specialized District Roles
The District School Social Worker serves in these key coordinator roles:
McKinney-Vento Liaison
Supports families experiencing housing transitions or instability (such as staying with others, living in shelters, motels, or campgrounds). Ensures immediate enrollment, transportation help, free meals, and school stability.
Foster Care Education Liaison
Helps students in foster care maintain school stability, handles school-of-origin decisions, manages immediate records transfer, coordinates transportation, and bridges caregiver-to-agency communication.
Handle With Care Liaison
Directly coordinates a prompt, compassionate, and flexible school response when the district is notified that a student has experienced a stressful or traumatic event outside of school hours.

When Should Families Reach Out?
Families are strongly encouraged to contact the School Social Worker for support with:
- Attendance concerns or trouble with school engagement.

- Behavioral support or youth mental wellness concerns.
- Basic needs assistance (housing, food, clothing, supplies).
- Foster or kinship care support and local system navigations.
- Collaboration plans to optimize individual student success.
