Body Clues: How do you feel when you are mad?
Circle the clues your body gives you right before you want to hit or yell:
Hot Face Cheeks feel hot
Tight Fists Hands squeeze hard
Fast Heart Thump-thump fast
Loud Voice Want to shout out
2
Safe Hands vs. Hurtful Hands
Look at each picture card below. Draw a GREEN CIRCLE around Safe Hands. Draw a RED X over Hurtful Hands:
Hitting or Pushing Pushing someone when they make you angry
Gentle High-Five Giving a friendly high-five or wave to a buddy
Grabbing Toys Snatching items out of a classmate's hands
Helping Pick Up Helping pick up dropped pencils or supplies
Hands in Lap / Pockets Keeping hands safe in your own body bubble
Pinching or Hitting Hurting bodies when you do not get your turn

Word Power: Kind Words vs. Hurtful Words
Bad words and insults hurt hearts. Match the situations by coloring the thumbs up for helpful words or thumbs down for bad words:
A Yelling mean curse words or name-calling when someone bumps you
B Saying: "Please stop, I don't like that" in a calm, firm voice
C Asking a grown-up: "I need help with sharing the ball"

When I feel mad, I can use the 4-Step Brake!
1
FREEZE Stop your feet and keep hands glued to your sides.
2
BREATHE Take 3 slow dragon breaths: smell flowers, blow bubbles.
3
COUNT 1-5 Count backward slowly inside your head.
4
USE WORDS State your feeling or get a teacher to assist.
5
Words to Use Instead of Bad Words or Hitting
Practice completing these calm sentence frames. Write what you will say:
1. When someone takes my spot or my turn:
"I was using that. Can I please have..."
2. When I feel frustrated or overwhelmed:
"I need a 2-minute break to..."
3. When someone won't listen to me:
"Teacher, can you please help us solve..."
6
How to Fix It If I Make a Mistake
Everyone makes mistakes. If you hit or used bad words, check 2 things you can do to repair the friendship:
Look them in the eye and say: "I am sorry for hitting/yelling. Next time I will use words." Ask: "Are you okay? Can I help you pick up your things?" Draw a kind apology picture or card for the person. Sit quietly with a teacher and talk through a better choice.
