Foundation 01 / Understanding Emotions
Emotions are Dashboard Signals
Just like warning lights in a car, feelings tell us what is happening inside and around us.
Common Myth
"Some emotions are bad, wrong, or need to be hidden away so nobody notices."
Bottling up feelings makes them grow stronger and erupt later.
The Truth
"Every feeling is welcome. What matters is how we handle and express them."
When you name what you feel, your brain can calm down and choose.
Brain Science Rule: "If you can name it, you can tame it."
— Dr. Dan Siegel
Step 1: Name Feelings 02 / Emotion Radar
Where Are You On The Radar?
Identify your energy level and emotional state right now.

Low Energy
• Tired / Drained
• Sad / Lonely
• Bored / Gloomy
Needs: Rest or gentle spark
Green Zone
Balanced Energy
• Focused & Ready
• Calm & Content
• Happy & Kind

Needs: Full stop & safety
No zone is bad. Recognizing where you are is how you take back control.
Step 1: Name Feelings 03 / Body Detective
Listen to Your Body Clues
Before your brain labels an emotion, your body sends physical alerts.

• Hot, warm, or blushing cheeks
• Scrunched eyebrows & frown
Chest & Lungs
• Fast, thumping heartbeat
• Quick, short breaths
• Lump or squeaky voice in throat
Stomach & Hands
• Butterflies or tight tummy knot
• Hands balling up into tight fists
• Bouncy legs or squirmy toes

Practice Time 08 / Put It Into Action
Let's Practice: The Block Tower Tumble
Walk through the Calm Compass routine with a real classroom moment.
The Moment You spent free-choice time carefully building a tall block tower. A classmate accidentally bumps your table and it crashes to the floor! Your face feels hot, and you want to stomp or yell.
1. Notice Body Clues
Hot red cheeks, tight balled fists, fast heart.
2. Name the Feeling
"I am in the Yellow/Red zone! I feel mad and upset."
3. Reset Strategy
Freeze hands, blow out 3 big candles, squeeze and open fists.
The Proud Outcome:
You cooled down your big mad surge. Now you can use strong words: "I was still playing with that. Please help me rebuild it!"
