The Anger Playbook
Anger is not a weakness or a crime—it is high-voltage energy and an internal alarm. Losing control gives everyone else power over you. Taking control puts you in the driver's seat.

The Anger Iceberg: What Is Under the Surface?
Anger is almost always a secondary emotion. The explosive reaction is just the tip above the water. Below the surface are the real triggers that fuel the fire.
Tip of the Iceberg (Visible)
- Yelling, snapping, cursing
- Slamming doors, punching objects
- Shutting down, silent treatment
- Aggressive posture, squaring up
Underwater Fuels (Real Causes)
• Disrespected • Embarrassed • Exhausted • Feeling Blamed • Overwhelmed • Left Out
Baseline Self-Audit
When was the last time anger caused you to do or say something you later regretted? What was the real feeling under the surface?

SECTION 01 Somatic Radar: Physical Warning Signals
PAGE 02 / 10
Catch the Fire Before the Explosion
Your body always knows you are angry 3 to 5 seconds before your brain acts. If you learn your early physical warning signs, you can shut down the adrenaline surge before you say or do something irreversible.
Head & Neck
Clenched jaw / teeth Ears feeling hot / red Tight neck muscles Tunnel vision
Chest & Core
Racing heart rate Short, shallow breaths Knot in the stomach Sudden body heat / sweat
Arms & Hands
Fists balling up Shaking hands Restless pacing Loud, sharp voice
THE BOILING GAUGE (1 - 10) Identify Your Reset Zones
LEVEL 1 - 3 Green Zone
Calm, slightly annoyed, but in total logical control. Easy to brush off.
LEVEL 4 - 6 Yellow Zone
Pulsing, defensive, voice rising. Intervene here with breathing.
LEVEL 7 - 10 Red Zone
Total adrenaline hijack. Logical brain is offline. Emergency exit only.

SECTION 03 CBT Decoder: Exposing Toxic Thought Traps
PAGE 04 / 10
Thoughts Control the Trigger
Events do not make you angry. Your interpretation of the event determines whether you stay composed or explode. Watch out for these 4 common cognitive glitches:
1. Mind Reading
Assuming you know what others think about you (usually negative).
Trap: "They're laughing at me. They think I'm a joke."
2. Disrespect Magnifier
Treating every minor mistake, look, or tone as a direct personal attack.
Trap: "He cut me off on purpose to test my dominance."
3. All-or-Nothing Thinking
Using words like always, never, ruined, or everyone.
Trap: "Teachers always target me. It's completely rigged."
4. The Entitlement Trap
Demanding that people or situations must always be completely fair.
Trap: "They CAN'T tell me what to do! I have to fight back."
Trap Buster: Match the Distortion
Read the thoughts below and label which thought trap is driving each one:
A. "My coach benched me because he hates me and wants to ruin my season." Trap: ___________
B. "My mom checked my room. She never trusts me no matter what I do." Trap: ___________
C. "That guy in the hallway bumped into me on purpose to start something." Trap: ___________

SECTION 03 The Reframe Formula: Flipping the Script
PAGE 05 / 10
The 4-Step Mental Pivot
Reframing is not about being "fake positive." It is about being tactically smart. You replace an angry automatic assumption with an objective, strategic truth.
WORKED EXAMPLE // GAMING / SQUAD DISPUTE
1. TRIGGER
Teammate blames you for losing the match.
2. GLITCH THOUGHT
"He thinks I'm trash. I need to flame him in chat."
3. REALITY CHECK
He's just tilted. Screaming won't win the next round.
4. POWER REFRAME
"I'm muting my mic, taking a breath, and focusing on my plays."
SCENARIO A: Parent Confrontation You walk in the door and get yelled at for messy chores.
Angry Glitch Thought:
Calm Power Reframe:
SCENARIO B: School / Peer Mockery Someone makes a slick joke about your clothes or mistake.

SECTION 04 The Disrespect Filter: Ego vs. Strategy
PAGE 06 / 10
Don't Take the Bait
For most teen guys, the #1 anger trigger is feeling "disrespected." But here is the harsh reality: when someone throws bait and you explode, they control you. Composure is the ultimate flex.
REACTIVE / EGO DRIVEN
You let your pride demand an instant reaction to prove you're not weak.
• You get suspended or kicked off the team.
• You lose privileges at home (car/phone).
• The instigator walks away laughing.
STRATEGIC / OUTCOME DRIVEN
You pause, assess what you stand to lose, and choose a calibrated response.
• You protect your standing and freedom.
• You show immovable self-discipline.
• You keep 100% of your power.
The Price Tag Analysis
Think of an argument or fight you had in the past 6 months. Calculate the true price tag:
What Did Exploding Cost You?
(Trust, phone, freedom, reputation, peace?)
What Would Composure Have Gained You?
(Respect, leverage, clean record, moral high ground?)
THE RULE OF VALUE:
"Never trade what you want most (your freedom and goals) for what you want in the moment (cheap payback)."
MODULE 04: EGO & DECISION MAKING ANGER MASTERY WORKBOOK
SECTION 05 Conflict Tactics: Assertive vs. Aggressive
PAGE 07 / 10
Stand Your Ground Without Blowing Up
Being assertive does not mean being soft. Passive gets walked on. Aggressive causes chaos. Assertive states the boundary firmly, calmly, and without backing down.
PASSIVE (DOORMAT)
Swallows anger, says nothing, bottles up resentment until an eventual explosion.
AGGRESSIVE (BOMB)
Attacks, threatens, yells, gets physical. Forces conflict and destroys leverage.
ASSERTIVE (WARRIOR)
Calm eye contact, steady voice, clear boundaries, zero apologies for feelings.
THE "POWER SCRIPT" FORMULA
When confronting someone, strip out attacks and use this 3-part blueprint:
"I feel..."
[The Core Emotion]
"When you..."
[Specific Action Only]
"So I need..."
[Clear Boundary]
Drill 1: Disagreeing with a Parent / Guardian
Aggressive: "You never listen to me and you ruin everything!"
Your Script:
Drill 2: Calling Out a Friend Who Crossed a Line
Aggressive: "Say that again and see what happens to you!"

SECTION 06 Strategic Retreat & Adrenaline Discharge
PAGE 08 / 10
The Tactical Time-Out
Stepping away from a conflict is not running away. In boxing, a fighter who is dazed clinches or steps back to recover his guard. Taking 15 minutes to cool down is a tactical power move.
Tactical Exit Phrases (Shut Down the Fire)
Use these exact lines when you hit a Level 7 to pause the confrontation cleanly:
For Parents:
"I'm too angry to talk right now and I don't want to yell. I need 20 minutes to cool off, then I'll finish this conversation."
For Friends / Peers:
"I'm not doing this back and forth right now. Let's revisit this later when we're both straight."

High-Discharge Power Outlets
- Heavy weight lifting / pushups to failure
- Sprints or high-tempo run with music
- Punching heavy bag / shadowboxing
- Free-flow anger journaling (then shred it)
- Cold shower shock reset
Destructive Traps (Never Fixes It)
- Punching drywall, doors, or lockers (broken hand)
- Smashing controllers / phone screens
- Speeding / reckless driving
- Venting aggressively on social media / group chats
- Numbing with substances or isolation
