Warm-Up: Reflect & Connect (10 Minutes)
"Good morning, future educators! Today, we're going to dive into a really important aspect of your professional journey: continuous growth and reflection. To start, I want you to take a moment to reflect on a recent teaching experience you've had during your field placements..."
Action: Direct students to the Reflection Warm-Up worksheet. Give 2 minutes for silent writing.
"Now, turn to a partner and briefly share your reflection and the area you'd like to improve. Listen to each other... This is just a quick connection."
I Do: Introduction to PLPs & TKES 6e (20 Minutes)

We Do (Part 1): Deconstructing & Goals (25 Minutes)
Group Work: Divide candidates into groups of 3-4.
"Your first task is to deconstruct TKES Standard 6e. Discuss what each part means and what it looks like in a real classroom. Then identify specific areas for development related to 6e that you personally need to grow in..."

"Once you've identified an area, define a preliminary SMART goal. Remember: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Timely. Example: 'By the end of the semester, I will implement a weekly reflective journal practice...'"
We Do (Part 2): Data & Justification (20 Minutes)
Pair Work: Candidates pair up within their small groups.

Reflective Practice Focus Handout Focus Standard: TKES 6e
Standard 6: Professionalism as an Early Childhood Educator
Full Standard Language
Early childhood educators (a) identify and participate as members of the early childhood profession. They serve as informed advocates for young children, for the families of the children on their care, and for the early childhood profession.
They (b) know and use ethical guidelines and other early childhood professional guidelines. They (c) have professional communication skills that effectively support their relationships and work with young children, families, and colleagues.
Early childhood educators (d) are continuous, collaborative learners who (e) develop and sustain the habit of reflective and intentional practice in their daily work with young children and as members of the early childhood profession.
Reflective vs. Intentional
Reflective Practice
Thinking back on teaching – what worked, what didn't, and identifying the "why" behind student outcomes.
Intentional Practice
Making deliberate, purposeful choices based on reflection to specifically target student needs.
Questions to Consider
How can reflection become a consistent part of your daily teaching, not just a weekly task?
How does being reflective contribute to your identity within the broader teaching profession ?
What data (student work, observations) can you use to inform your reflection?
