Superpower Safari Lesson Plan
Positive Action: Self-Concept
SUPERPOWER SAFARI
Teacher Lesson Plan & Facilitation Guide
45-60 MINS
Grades 2-5
MISSION OVERVIEW
Through high-energy cooperative movement, printable challenges, and reflective design, students identify their inner strengths, celebrate individual differences, and build collective self-esteem. They learn that "strengths" are not just physical powers, but qualities of character.
OBJECTIVES
- • Define self-concept & inner strengths.
- • List 3 personal unique qualities.
- • Affirm positive attributes of peers.
Required Gear: Safari Activity Cards • Superpower Shield Worksheets • Markers/Colors • Upbeat Music
1
Warm-Up: The Strength Stampede (10 mins)
Active Gameplay: Students move freely around the room (walking, hopping, running in place) to the music. When the music stops, the teacher shouts a "Strength Callout" (e.g., "Kind Hearts!" or "Problem Solvers!").
Prompting Connection: "If you think that strength describes you, strike a powerful safari pose! Look around and celebrate your classmates' powers by high-fiving the nearest matching explorer."
*Facilitator Tip: Call out non-visual strengths like "Patient Waiters," "Deep Thinkers," "Joy Spreaders," and "Team Supporters" to broaden their self-concept.
2
Core Expedition: Strength Hunt (15 mins)
The Exploration: Divide the classroom into four quadrants or "Wilderness Zones" using the Safari Activity Cards. Each zone presents a distinct challenge requiring self-reflection and communication.
Zone A: Spark Summit
Students state one thing they are proud of learning this year. Helps highlight growth mindset.
Zone B: Echo Valley
Students turn to a partner and share one positive quality they appreciate in them.
Instruct students to rotate in teams of 4-5. At each station, one team member draws a Safari Card and leads the challenge listed on the card.

Team Challenge: The Spark Bridge (15 mins)
Goal: Form a giant human chain across the room, but can only add members who connect using a "shared strength" or a "complementary power."
How it works:
1. Start with one student in the center of the room. They declare: "I bring the power of [e.g., listening/making people laugh] to the safari!"
2. Another student who feels they benefit from that power or share a similar one steps up, links elbows, and declares their own strength.
3. Continue until all students are connected in a powerful loop. Emphasize that every single link was required to build the bridge.
4
Creative Integration: My Superpower Shield (15 mins)
Individual Reflection: Students transition to their desks to map out their unique traits onto the Superpower Shield Worksheet. This serves as their personal self-concept anchor chart.

My proudest character quality
Section 2
A challenge I overcame
Section 3
My hope or dream for the year
Safari Debrief & Discussion Prompts
Prompt 1: "Did you discover any strengths today that you didn't realize you had?"
Encourages self-reflection and expanding self-awareness.
Prompt 2: "Why is a safari stronger when different explorers have different specialties, rather than everyone having the exact same power?"
Builds appreciation for diversity and positive self-worth without competition.
Prompt 3: "How can we use our superpowers to support a classmate when they are having a tough day?"
Connects self-concept to empathy, community action, and social-emotional growth.
