Show the title slide of the deck to hook interest. 5 min Story Time Read "The Brave Little Superhero" . Ask questions: "What did Alex notice in his body?" "What was his super strategy?" 7 min Body Clues Use the Emotion Recognition Worksheet . Guide them to connect physical clues (clenched fists, fast breathing) to specific feelings. 5 min Charades Play Emotion Charades . Students act out precursor behaviors (not just the emotion). Focus on non-verbal cues. 5 min Strategy Match Play Strategy Match-Up . Brave Little Superhero Story Training Story #1
The Brave Little
Superhero
Once upon a time in a quiet town, there was a young superhero named Alex. Alex wasn’t very big, but he had a heart filled with courage. Every day, Alex practiced his superhero skills to help others and to keep his own feelings safe.
A Special Challenge
One sunny morning, while playing in the park, Alex began to feel a little storm inside him. His hands felt tight, and his breathing grew fast. Alex knew these were clues that his feelings were about to get very big. Remembering all his training, he stopped to think about what was happening inside his body.
Recognizing the Signs
Alex had learned that every superhero has a secret: to notice small signs when feelings start to build. He took a deep breath, just as he had practiced, and felt the tightness begin to ease. He looked around and saw that the trees were gently swaying, and the birds sang their quiet song. Those simple clues reminded him that he had the power to calm his stormy emotions.
The Super Strategy
Alex smiled and decided it was the perfect time to use his super strategy. He counted slowly to five in his head while imagining his feelings shrinking away like a shrinking shadow. With each count, he felt a lot more relaxed and ready to enjoy his day.
A Lesson for Every Superhero
By the end of the day, Alex knew that being a superhero wasn’t just about lifting heavy objects or flying high in the sky. It was also about understanding his own emotions and knowing how to manage them.
