CLASSROOM SEL MISSION
Grades K–5 Community Builder
Respect Radar
Tuning in to how we treat ourselves, care for each other, and protect our shared spaces.
Self • Others • Our Space
Let’s Turn On Our Signals! 📡
What Is Respect?
Showing that you value people, places, and things.
The 3 Big Circles
1. For Myself
Treating my own body, mind, and feelings with kindness. Trying my best and forgiving mistakes!
“I am capable & worthy.”
2. For Others
Listening with full attention, celebrating differences, and speaking with words that lift up.
“You matter to me.”
3. For Our Space
Caring for classroom supplies, keeping grounds clean, and respecting what belongs to others.
“Our space stays safe.”
Remember: When all three circles are working, everyone feels safe to learn!

How the Respect Radar Scans
Scanning 3 Channels
LOOK
Look at body language. Are your hands calm? Are your eyes tracking the speaker?
LISTEN
Wait for your turn to speak. Tune in to tone of voice—is it warm and helpful?
FEEL
Check your inner signals. Would you feel respected if someone said that to you?
Class Question: Which channel is easiest for you to practice right now?
What Does It Look & Sound Like?
Real everyday habits that make our classroom thrive.
Daily Actions
Respect LOOKS Like
- ✔ Making room for someone new at the lunch or carpet circle
- ✔ Capping markers tight and returning supplies neatly
- ✔ Nodding and waiting while a teammate shares an idea
- ✔ Giving classmates personal space in lines and hallways
Respect SOUNDS Like
- 💬 “I hear your point, and I was thinking...”
- 💬 “Do you want to join our game today?”
- 💬 “Thank you for holding the door!”
- 💬 “I disagree with that idea, but I still respect you.”
Turn to your neighbor: Share one phrase that always makes you feel respected!
Challenge Time
Scenario Showdown: What Would You Do?
RADAR TEST
Case 1: The Playground Game
Two friends are picking teams for kickball. One student is always picked last and sits alone on the bench looking down.
How can you tune your radar?
What is one respectful action you could take right then?
Case 2: The Art Supply Mix-Up
Someone grabs the special glitter gel pen directly out of your pencil box without asking while you are coloring.
How do you respond with respect?
How do you stand up for your space without yelling or insulting?
Respect doesn’t mean staying silent—it means using calm, clear courage!
Next-Level Thinking
The Golden Rule... Leveled Up!
Level 2 Thinking
The Golden Rule
“Treat others how YOU want to be treated.”
A fantastic start! If you like kindness, honesty, and friendly hellos, give those to others.
Good for: Starting with kindness!
The Platinum Rule
“Treat others how THEY need to be treated.”
Even better! You might love loud high-fives, but your friend might need a quiet smile and personal space.
Best for: True empathy & inclusion!
Radar Check: Different people need different kinds of care. Ask and observe! 🤝
