Instructional Steps
5 min
Warm-Up: How Are You Feeling?
Begin with the individual check-in. Ask students to silently reflect on their current feelings and draw a quick emoji or write a word representing their emotion. Briefly discuss that all emotions are valid and mindfulness helps us process them.
5 min
Introduction to Mindfulness
Use the Slide Deck to define mindfulness: paying attention to the present moment without judgment . Connect mindfulness to focus and calmness. Refer to the Teacher Script for guiding questions.
15 min
Guided Meditation Activity
Lead the core practice. Guide students to find a comfortable seated position. Follow the body scan and sound awareness prompts in the script. Allow for periods of silence. Emphasize returning to the breath when the mind wanders.
3 min
Share and Reflect
Gently transition out of the meditation. Invite students to share one thing they noticed or felt. Validate all experiences (even if they felt "wiggly" or distracted)—there is no "right" way to meditate.
2 min
Cool-Down: One Breath Reflection
Conclude with one final collective mindful breath. Encourage students to "carry the calm" with them into their next class or activity. Use the Cool Down Sheet for final processing.

Warm-Up: How Are You Feeling?
"Good morning/afternoon, everyone! Today, we're going to start our time together by checking in with ourselves. No need to shout it out, but right now, how are you feeling inside? You might be feeling excited, tired, calm, silly, or something else entirely. Just take a moment to notice it."
"On a small piece of paper, you can draw a quick emoji that shows how you're feeling, or write down one word that describes your emotion. If you prefer, you can just think about it in your head. There's no right or wrong way to feel."
Pause for students to reflect/draw/write
"It's completely normal to feel different emotions throughout the day. Sometimes we feel happy, sometimes a little sad, sometimes excited, sometimes a bit wiggly! Mindfulness can help us understand these feelings and learn how to work with them, so they don't always take over. We'll explore that more today."

"Now, let's try a short, guided meditation. This is a time to be very still and quiet, and just notice. I'll guide you through it."
"First, find a comfortable way to sit in your chair. Your feet can be flat on the floor, your back can be straight but relaxed. You can gently close your eyes, or if you prefer, you can keep them slightly open, looking softly downwards. Let's all try that now."
Pause for students to get comfortable
Display Slide 5: "Focus on Your Breath"
"Take a slow, gentle breath in through your nose. Feel your belly rise, like a balloon filling with air. Now, slowly breathe out through your mouth, letting all the air go. Feel your belly fall. Just notice the feeling of the air moving in and out of your body. You don't need to change your breath, just observe it."
