Kindness Captain Script
Scissors and Glue/Tape
Markers or Crayons
Instructional Arc
1
The Ripple Effect (5 mins)
Show the domino chain video. Discuss: "How is one small push like one small act of kindness?" Explain that kindness spreads from person to person just like the dominos fall.
2
Brainstorming & Recording (10 mins)
Use the Kindness Captain Script to lead a brainstorming session. Hand out the Paper Chain Build worksheet. Students write or draw one kind act on each of their 5 strips.
3
Building the Chain (10 mins)
Students cut out their strips. Guide them in looping the strips together. Connect each student's chain to form one massive "Kindness Chain Reaction" around the classroom.
4
Setting the Goal (5 mins)
Introduce the Kindness Tracker . Set a class goal (e.g., reaching the door, wrapping around the desk) and explain how students can earn new links daily.
Support & Scaffolding
For emerging writers, encourage drawing pictures of the kind act. Provide a word bank: "Share," "Help," "Smile," "Wave," "Play." Use pre-cut strips for students with fine motor challenges.
Pro-Tip
Keep extra blank strips in a "Kindness Station." When you catch a student being kind, let them add a link immediately to keep the momentum going after the lesson!

Part 1
The Domino Mystery
"Friends, look at these dominos on the screen. Watch what happens when I give just one tiny tap to the very first one... [Play Video]. Whoa! Did you see that? One little push made a huge chain reaction! Kindness is just like that. When you do one kind thing, it travels! It might make a friend smile, then they feel happy and help someone else, and soon the whole room is full of sunshine."
Part 2
The Kindness Spark
Ask the class:
"What is something kind you could do with your hands ? (Examples: High five, helping pick up toys, waving hello)"
"What is something kind you could do with your words ? (Examples: Saying 'thank you,' giving a compliment, asking someone to play)"
"What is something kind you can do for our school ? (Examples: Pushing in chairs, picking up trash, being quiet in the hall)"
Part 3
Starting the Reaction
"Now, you are all officially Kindness Captains ! Your mission is to write down 5 'Spark Ideas' on your paper strips. These are things you promise to do this week. Once we write them, we are going to link them all together. Imagine if every student in our school did 5 kind things... that would be a chain longer than our whole building!"
Tip: If a student is stuck, suggest 'The Magic Three': Smile, Share, Say Hello.
