Phase 4: Brainstorming Strategies

SAY:

"Okay, this is where we get creative! Let's brainstorm some things that might help you stay focused when those triggers pop up. Have you ever tried anything that worked before? What about ideas like having a small fidget tool, taking quick notes, or even just stretching for a second?"

"Now, for those moments when you feel an impulse to do something distracting, what could help you manage that? Things like taking a deep breath, counting to five, or even having a secret signal with me or another teacher if you need a quick break."

"It's important to remember you're not alone in this. Who can you talk to if you're struggling? Are there any small changes to your desk or routine that could make a difference? How can we make sure your teachers know what you need to succeed?"

Fill in the 'Strategies' section on Worksheet Part 3.

Phase 5: Action Plan & Wrap-up

SAY:

"Alright, we've talked about a lot of great ideas. Looking at your worksheet, what 2-3 strategies do you think you want to try first? Let's pick the ones you feel most confident about."

"Awesome choices! When will you start trying these out? We can start tomorrow. And how about we check in again next [Day of week] to see how things are going? We can talk for just a few minutes, see what's working, and adjust if we need to."

"Remember, this is your plan, and I'm here to support you every step of the way. I believe in you, and I know you can do this. Thanks again for this really productive conversation!"

Finalize Worksheet Part 4. Schedule the check-in date.
