1
Introduction: The Feelings Spark
5 MINS
Begin with a brief discussion on what emotions are (inner weather) and why they are important.
Ask students to share some emotions they know and how they express them.
Use the slide deck to introduce the concept of "Emotional Awareness."
2
Group Activity: Face the Feelings
10 MINS
Divide students into small groups (3-4 students).
Provide markers and blank paper to each group.
Ask them to draw faces showing different emotions (happy, sad, angry, surprised, bored, etc.).
Encourage them to discuss: "What situations might cause this face?" and "Where do you feel this emotion in your body?"
3
Class Discussion: Feeling Deeply
10 MINS
Use the Discussion Guide to facilitate a conversation about how different emotions feel and how we can express them appropriately.
Encourage students to share personal experiences if they feel comfortable (e.g., "A time I felt brave...").
Highlight the concept of empathy—trying to understand what someone else is feeling.
4
Reflection: My Emotion Map
5 MINS
Distribute the Feelings Worksheet .
Ask students to reflect on a time they felt a strong emotion and how they handled it.
Conclude with a reminder: All feelings are okay, but all behaviors are not. We can learn to manage our "feeling volume."

Lesson: Exploring Emotions
Feelings Flow Discussion Guide
Use these prompts to facilitate a deep, empathetic conversation about the emotional landscape of your classroom.
What are some common emotions you experience?
"Think about different situations—like when you're playing at recess, when you're trying a hard math problem, or when you're getting ready for bed. What are the 'inside weather' patterns you notice?"
Goal: Broaden emotional vocabulary beyond just 'good' or 'bad'.
Probe: "Has anyone ever felt two emotions at the same time? Like being nervous and excited?"
How can we express our emotions in a healthy way?
"When we feel a 'big' emotion like anger or sadness, it's like a wave. How can we ride that wave without crashing into others? What are some safe ways to let those feelings out?"
Strategy Brainstorming
Talk to a trusted adult
Journaling or Drawing
Deep Breathing
Why is it important to understand others' emotions?
"Imagine you're a detective. If you can read the 'clues' on someone's face or in their voice, how does that help you be a better friend?"
The Power of Empathy
Understanding others allows us to support them when they're down and celebrate when they're up. It's the 'glue' that holds friendships together.
Facilitator Tip
Validate all feelings. Remind students that there are no "bad" emotions, only uncomfortable ones. The goal isn't to stop feeling, but to understand what the feeling is telling us.
