Materials Emotion Adventure Slides Emotion Cards (Printed/Cut) Exit Tickets (1 per student) Note: Requires projector/audio for video playback. Instructional Sequence 1 Introduction 2 MINS Begin by asking students what they think emotions are and why they are important. Set the stage for the "Adventure" by introducing the concept of being an "Emotion Explorer." 2 Video Viewing 2 MINS Play the video "Understanding Your Emotions" (link in slides). Encourage students to pay attention to how emotions are described and any new information they learn. 3 Emotion Card Activity 10 MINS Distribute Cards: Give each student one "Emotion Card". Reflect: Ask students to think of a time they felt the emotion on their card. Pair & Share: Pair students up to share their experiences and discuss how they managed their emotions. Discuss: Facilitate a class discussion on different emotions and coping strategies mentioned in the pairs. 4 Game: Emotion Charades 4 MINS Explain rules: Act out the emotion without speaking; the class guesses. Select volunteers. Focus on body language and facial expressions. 5 Closure and Exit Ticket 2 MINS Recap key points: naming emotions and sharing experiences. Distribute the Exit Ticket for independent reflection. Trauma-Informed Tip If a student shares a difficult experience, validate their feelings immediately. Remind students that all emotions are okay to feel, and we are learning tools to navigate them safely together.
