Warm-Up & Objective Setting
Welcome students to the safe space. State the objective clearly: "Today we're learning to break drama cycles and build healthy friendships." Hand out Drama Detox Signal Cards and explain they are for communicating feelings (like feeling overwhelmed or triggered) without disrupting the group flow.
5m
Scenario Discussion
Divide the group into pairs or triads. Hand out one Scenario Prompt Card per small group. Have them discuss: "What is the drama cycle here?" and "How could you respond differently?" Circulate to prompt deeper thinking and affirm positive ideas.
5m
Reflect & Goal-Set
Distribute the Drama Detox Reflection Worksheet . Have students work individually to recall a recent drama moment and write a healthier response strategy. Encourage sharing one insight with the group. Focus on the importance of "Active Listening" and "Clear Boundaries."
3m
Wrap-Up & Action Plan
Summarize key strategies: Active listening, clear boundaries, and calm responses. Ask students to set one personal action to practice this week. Use sticky notes for them to jot down their commitment to take with them.
Counselor Pro-Tip
Middle school drama often stems from a lack of direct communication. Encourage the girls to move from "tattling" (trying to get someone in trouble) to "reporting" (sharing information for safety) or, ideally, direct boundary setting. If a student is triggered, acknowledge the Signal Card immediately with a nod or a brief check-in.
