The Big Picture
The Three Pillars of Your Diploma
Pillar Model
1. Local District Credits
Your district sets total required credits (typically 20–24 courses) spanning all core academic departments.
Earn passing course grades
2. State Competency
Demonstrating mastery of Massachusetts curriculum frameworks in English Language Arts, Math, and Science.
Meet state benchmarks
3. MyCAP Pathway
Your multi-year roadmap connecting elective choices, career pathways, and postsecondary ambitions.
Intentional course choices
All three pillars must stand together to secure your graduation credential. DESE Aligned
The Massachusetts Gold Standard
What is MassCore?
22 Units

MassCore Program
The state-recommended course sequence designed for postsecondary readiness.
- Meets UMass & State University minimum admissions rules
- Guarantees rigorous math through 12th grade

Action Step
Conducting Your Credit Audit
Step-by-Step
1
Count Earned Credits
Tally all passed courses (grade D or higher for credit). Check each subject bucket on your worksheet.
Rule: Fails do NOT earn credits!
2
Spot the Gaps Early
Identify missing prerequisites: Are you on track for 4 years of math? Did you start your World Language?
Rule: Catch gaps before 12th grade!
3
Map Future Semesters
Draft courses for your upcoming school years that match your postsecondary goal and complete MassCore.
Rule: Every semester has purpose.
Need credit recovery or summer school? Talk to your school counselor immediately to protect your graduation year!
