Display the "Is it worth it?" slide. Ask students: "If someone offered you a loan for $200,000 to buy a business, what information would you need before saying yes?" Transition to how a college degree is essentially buying into your future "business."

Use the slides to define ROI. Introduce the simplified ROI formula for the lesson: ROI = (Expected 10-Year Salary - Cost of Degree) / Cost of Degree Discuss variables: In-state vs. Out-of-state, STEM vs. Humanities, and BFA vs. BA.

Guided Practice: Case Study Analysis (30 mins)

Teacher Tip: Addressing Misconceptions
"The Humanities Trap": Students often think Humanities degrees have zero ROI. Remind them that Liberal Arts majors often see higher salary growth later in their careers (ages 35-50) than specialized tech majors whose skills may become obsolete.
"The Prestige Myth": Students may think a prestigious private school always yields higher pay. In some fields (like Nursing or Accounting), the school name matters less than the license or certification, making state schools a much higher ROI choice.
Net Price vs. Sticker Price: Briefly mention that private schools often offer more financial aid, meaning the "sticker price" isn't always what families pay. This lesson focuses on averages for simplicity, but advanced classes should look at "Net Price Calculators."

Critical Alert: The BFA has an ROI of less than 1. This means in the first 10 years, they haven't even earned enough extra income to justify the cost of the degree compared to having no degree at all (assuming a baseline non-degree income of ~$30k/yr). This is a "high-risk" financial path.

Q1: Why choose a BFA despite low ROI?
Expected Student Answers: Better studio facilities, networking with industry leaders, prestige in the art world, specialized equipment, "portfolio building" focus, personal passion.
Q2: Why is the Engineer's ROI lower than the Nurse's?
Expected Student Answers: Because the private school tuition is so high, it "eats" most of the extra profit earned in the first decade. High salary doesn't always mean high profit if the "overhead" (debt) is too high.

Encourage students to realize that ROI is a tool for awareness , not a rule for living . If we only chose high-ROI jobs, we would have no social workers or elementary teachers. The goal is to choose a path where they can afford the life they want to live.
