Head Chef Briefing (Teacher Instructions)
Cut along dotted ticket lines. Students analyze kitchen pressure scenarios at their solo prep desks. Recipe Flow: Identify the boiling point, scan body temperatures, execute the "Chef's Trick" (calm down skill), and speak the "Service Script" (requesting help).
TICKET #1 BOILING
Boiling Over
PROBLEM: You are at your solo prep station. The spelling steps look too complex. Your pressure level rises and your water is boiling over.
Kitchen Strategy:
1. Check Temperature: Where does the steam leak? (Clenched teeth, heavy breathing, hot neck?)
2. Simmer Down: Execute "Simmer Breath" (slow deep inhale, exhale like a quiet soup cooling whistle).
3. Call Out: Tell Head Chef: "Chef, I've hit a block on this recipe. Can you help me simmer this down?"
TICKET #2 RESTLESS
Kitchen Clatter
PROBLEM: The station is dead silent for reading prep. The complete lack of noise makes your hands and legs feel restless and jumpy.
Kitchen Strategy:
1. Check Temperature: Where is the static hiding? (Bouncing knees, pencil drumming, fast eyes?)
2. Simmer Down: Do a "Plate Scan": name 3 round items and 2 metal items in your workspace silently.
3. Call Out: Request a textured sensory item or take a quiet "1-minute pantry stretch" step.
TICKET #3 NOISY
Dining Chatter
PROBLEM: You are prepping spelling sheets alone. Across the dining room, other chefs are laughing and working together. You feel left out.
Kitchen Strategy:
1. Check Temperature: Does the exclusion make you feel angry, sad, or totally unfocused?
2. Simmer Down: Drop your mental "Chef Hat" low. Lock your eyes on ingredient #3 and block out the room noise.
3. Call Out: Self-talk: "This order is mine. Once I plate this work, I will check in with the dining staff."
TICKET #4 SPILLED
Spilled Sauce
PROBLEM: You wrote out a long description, only to find you were on the wrong worksheet column. You want to smash the sheet down.
Kitchen Strategy:
1. Check Temperature: Catch the sudden boiling surge. Do your shoulders feel tense, or is your jaw clenching?
2. Simmer Down: Press your heels hard into the floor. Crumple a scrap sheet to discharge the frustration safely.
3. Call Out: Tell Head Chef: "Spilled a sauce here, Chef. Keeping my work tray intact and preparing a clean restart."

TICKET #5 COLD
The Cold Oven
PROBLEM: You look at your writing worksheet. Your oven is completely cold. You have zero interest in working and want to shut down your station.
Kitchen Strategy:
1. Check Temperature: Why is the fire out? Is the recipe too complex, too long, or does it feel boring?
2. Simmer Down: Set a "Two-Minute Prep" timer. Tell yourself you can pause after completing just two short lines of writing.
3. Call Out: Tell Head Chef: "Oven is cold, Chef. Can we prep the first ingredient together to get the heat back up?"
TICKET #6 CRAMPED
Cramped Pantry
PROBLEM: Your desk workstation feels extremely small, dark, and confining today. You feel crowded by the screens.
Kitchen Strategy:
1. Check Temperature: Are you taking shallow chest breaths? Does your throat or chest feel tight?
2. Simmer Down: Ground both feet on the floor. Sit tall, roll your shoulders, and widen your posture to expand your bubble.
3. Call Out: Ask: "Chef, can I slide my station back three inches, or work standing up next to my cabin?"
TICKET #7 DELAY
Order Delay
PROBLEM: You need an explanation key. You look for the Head Chef, but they are busy helping other stations prep. You are stuck.
Kitchen Strategy:
1. Check Temperature: Catch the twitchy feeling of delay. Do you tap your pencil or squirm?
2. Simmer Down: Put the dish on warm. Move to a different problem in your packet that you can complete alone.
3. Call Out: Place your "Standby Flag" on the corner of your desk, and continue working quietly.
TICKET #8 SHOCK
Dropped Tray
PROBLEM: You are locked in, chopping quietly. Suddenly, a peer drops a heavy plastic bin behind you. CLANG! Your system jolts.
Kitchen Strategy:
1. Check Temperature: Feel the sudden jump of shock (racing heart, gasp) and note the urge to turn and yell.
2. Simmer Down: Drop anchors: press both palms flat on the desk, take one slow breath to calm the nervous system surge.
3. Call Out: Whisper: "Just an accidental noise in the kitchen. Keeping my focus and continuing."
