Big Feelings
Our Hearts & Minds
Inside of me, I have lots of big feelings. Some days I feel happy and want to laugh!
Other days, I might feel frustrated, sad, or angry. Having big feelings is completely okay! Everyone feels mad sometimes.

Keeping Everyone Safe
Our Promises
Sometimes when I get mad, my body might feel like hitting or pushing.
But hitting is not okay. Hitting hurts our friends, our teachers, and our class family. It makes everyone feel sad and unsafe.
I want my school to be a happy, safe place. That means no hitting, ever.
We Do Not Hit
Our hands stay on our own bodies or are used to help. We protect our classroom friends and teachers!

Implementation and Intervention Strategies
Kit Objectives & Core Focus
The Safe Hands Heroes kit is a tier-1 and tier-2 behavioral intervention designed specifically for Pre-K and Kindergarten classrooms. It emphasizes positive, strength-based alternative actions (high-fives, deep breaths, folding hands) rather than focusing solely on negative behaviors. The goal is to establish self-regulation and a shared vocabulary around "safe physical choices."
1
Social Story
Read 1-on-1 or in small groups. Pause on emotions. Reinforce that big feelings are okay , but hurting is not.
"We keep hands safe!"
2
Visual Cueing
Carry laminated cards on your lanyard. Use non-verbal prompts during escalation to direct students to healthy alternatives.

3
Daily Tracker
Review twice daily (Midday & Dismissal). Allow children to color stars directly to foster agency and continuous motivation.

Emotion Check-In
"How does your tummy feel when you are angry? What other parts of your body feel hot or tense when you are upset?"
Replacement Actions
"When you feel like hitting, let's practice doing a slow breath together or tucking our hands safely into our pockets."
Quick Co-Regulation Protocol
1. Keep Voice Low & Calm: Match high-energy student reactions with a steady, hushed tone to decrease environmental anxiety.
2. Display the 'Fold Hands' Cue: Hold the laminated card at eye level to direct them to replacement choices without talking.
3. Validate and Offer High-Five: "I can see you are frustrated. It is okay to be frustrated. Let's do a slow breath, and when you are ready, let's give a safe high-five!"

No Snatching
Classroom Promises
Sometimes, I see a toy that someone else is playing with, and I want it right away. My body might feel like snatching it from their hands.
But snatching is not okay. It is not kind. Snatching makes our friends feel sad, angry, and hurt.
We want everyone to feel safe and happy when playing. So, we choose not to snatch!
We Keep Toys Safe
We wait for our turn. Snatching toys makes playtime sad. We keep our hands on our own work!

Sharing Choices
Alternative Options
When I see a toy I want, I can use my Sharing Powers:
1. Ask Nicely
"Can I play with that when you are done?"
2. Trade
"Would you like to trade for this toy?"
3. Set Timer
Ask a teacher to set a 2-minute timer.

Implementation and Intervention Strategies
Kit Objectives & Core Focus
The Sharing Heroes kit is designed to build healthy peer interactions by establishing structured replacement behaviors for toy snatching. Rather than simply instructing children to "share," this module teaches actionable turn-taking scripts ("Can I have a turn next?"), offering fair trades, and using classroom timers to reduce physical impulsivity.
1
Social Story
Read during circle time or 1-on-1 before free-play. Emphasize that wanting a toy is normal , but snatching hurts.
"We share together!"
2
Visual Cueing
Introduce cards before center play. Prompt children physically with "Ask Nicely," "Offer Trade," or "Use Timer" options.
Free-Play Interventions

Daily Tracker
Complete at lunch and pack-up. Praise positive turn-taking. Have children self-color stars to solidify pride in sharing.

Managing Urges
"How does it feel when you really, really want a toy that a classmate is holding? What can you do in your body to help you wait?"
Practicing Trades
"Let's practice trading. If I am holding a toy car, what is another fun toy you could offer to trade me for it?"
Toy Snatching Conflict Protocol
1. Pause & Recover Toy: Calmly step in and place your hand on the toy. "My turn to hold the toy to keep it safe. In this classroom, we do not snatch."
2. Present Sharing Cues: Present the "Ask Nicely" and "Use Timer" cards. "We can ask nicely for a turn, or we can use the sand timer. Which choice would you like?"
3. Facilitate the Choice: Coach the child to say the words or set the physical timer. Once completed, praise both children: "What incredible sharing heroes!"
