Buddy Boosters Lesson Plan
Core Concept: Practicing active peer support through physical challenge

Partner Balance
Being Kind:
Polite & pleasant. "Here is a red crayon." "Good morning!"
Being Supportive:
Helping when it's hard! "You can do it! Take your time, I'm right here!"
Fast-Paced 15-Minute Flow
0-3 Min
The Hook & The Wobbly Walk Demo
Teacher pretends to balance on a floor line carrying a soft block, wobbling dramatically: "Oh no, this is hard! I feel like dropping it!" Ask: "What can a friend say or do right now to help me not give up?" Contrast a simple smile (kind) with stepping close and cheering (supportive).
3-5 Min
Teach the 3 Booster Powers
1. Steady Hands Hold two fingers out for balance
2. Power Words "You got this! Try again!"
3. Finish Cheer Double high-five & jump cheer
5-12 Min
Active Game: "The Wobbly Bridge Challenge"
Hands-On Practice
Setup: 3-4 tape lines (bridges) on the carpet. Kids pair up: one is the Walker, one is the Booster.
Walker carries a beanbag on their palm along the zig-zag tape line.
The Booster's Mission: Walk alongside, say power words, and offer a steady finger if their buddy wobbles.
If the beanbag falls: Booster shouts: "Shake it off! Try again!" and waits patiently.
Partners swap roles at the 8-minute mark so everyone practices supporting.
12-15 Min
Circle Cool-Down & Booster Pledge
Gather in a quick circle. Call-and-response chant with actions:
"When things get tough and hard to do, I'll be a Booster right next to you!" (Pat heart, point to friend).
What to Look & Praise For
Spot students who notice frustration in their partner and step in with encouragement before giving up. Praise the booster action, not just the successful walk!
Quick Adaptations
Motor challenges: Walk flat feet on carpet line without carrying anything. Partner holds hand gently.
Shy cheerers: Give them a silent thumbs-up high-five cue card!

What Your Child Discovered Today
Today in kindergarten, we explored a powerful idea: being a supportive friend is even bigger than being a kind friend. While kindness is about smiles and good manners, support is about giving courage to others when things feel hard or frustrating. Through an active balancing game, students practiced stepping up as "Buddy Boosters!"
A Kind Friend
Focuses on politeness and generosity.
Says "please" and "thank you"
Shares crayons and toys willingly
Smiles and plays nicely together
A Supportive Friend
Lifts others up through struggles.
Notices when a friend is frustrated
Cheers them on: "You can do this!"
Celebrates hard effort, not just winning
Refrigerator Cue: "Words That Lift"
Practice at Home
Try replacing "good job" with these booster phrases when your child or sibling faces a challenge:
"Take your time."
Removes panic
"I'm right here."
Builds security
"Try again, buddy!"
Encourages grit
4-Star Family Booster Challenge
Color a star each time you catch someone supporting!
Catch your child or family members supporting each other when something gets tricky (zipping a coat, trying a tricky puzzle, or practicing sports):
Tough Shoes/Coat Offered patience
Fallen Blocks Helped rebuild
New Skill Tried Cheered effort
Your Choice! Proud booster
Our Class Chant
