Facilitator Script
Introduction (Slide 1-3)
SAY: "Good morning, Gardeners! Did you know that inside your head, you have a beautiful garden? It's your brain! Just like flowers need water and sunshine, your brain needs 'Brain Food' to grow strong. What do you think brain food is?"
[Allow for 2-3 student responses - e.g., reading, trying new things, practice]
SAY: "Exactly! Every time you try something hard, your brain grows a new little leaf. But sometimes, growing is tough. Let's meet a friend who had a very hard day."
The Story of Sunny (Slide 4-8)
Refer to the illustrations on the slides as you read.
READ: "Once there was a little seed named Sunny. Sunny lived under the dirt and wanted to reach the sunshine. But oh no! Sunny bumped into a giant, heavy rock."
SAY: "Sunny said, 'I can't get past this rock!' Class, how do you think Sunny is feeling?" [Wait for responses]
READ: "Suddenly, a friendly Worm crawled by. The Worm whispered a magic word. The word was... **YET**. Sunny didn't say 'I can't do it.' Sunny said, 'I can't do it... **YET!**'"
ASK: "When Sunny added the word 'Yet,' did the rock disappear? No. But did Sunny's brain feel different? Yes! It felt ready to try a new way. Let's help Sunny wiggle around the rock!"
Activity: The Power of Yet (Slide 9)
SAY: "Now it's your turn. Sometimes we feel like Sunny. Maybe we can't tie our shoes... **YET**. Maybe we can't do big math... **YET**. On your worksheet, I want you to draw a picture of something you are practicing. Then, we are going to write that magic word: **YET**."
Closing (Slide 10)
SAY: "Stand up, Gardeners! Put your hands on your head like you're holding a growing flower. Repeat after me: I am a Brain Gardener. My brain is growing. I won't give up. I just haven't got it... **YET!**"
