Key Vocabulary
Body Clue: A secret message from inside your body (flutter, thump, warmth, tightness).
0-5m Breathing → 5-15m Slides → 15-22m Freeze Dance → 22-27m Booklet → 27-30m Closure
Phase 1: Mindful Breathing Warm-Up (0-5 Mins)
Rug Circle
Goal: Settle the body, awaken internal attention, and practice the hand-on-heart, hand-on-belly posture.
Teacher Talk (Verbatim Script):
"Good morning, Body Detectives! Today we are going on a mystery hunt, but the clues aren't hidden under the rug. They are hidden right inside YOU! Place one hand gently on your chest where your heart lives, and one flat hand on your belly. Close your eyes or look down at your knees. Take a slow, quiet breath in through your nose... feel your belly balloon expand! Now blow it out through your lips like you're cooling a cup of hot cocoa... shhhhh. Can you feel that tiny thump-thump under your hand? That's your heart saying hello! When our feelings change, our bodies give us signals. Let's find out what they mean!"
Teacher Action: Model big exaggerated breathing posture; praise children resting still hands on their ribs.
Phase 2: Interactive Slide Discussion (5-15 Mins)
Slides 1–6
Goal: Introduce concrete body sensations for Joy, Anger, Fear/Worry, and Calm.
Slide 3: Joy & Excitement (Warm Chest & Bouncy Feet) Action Check
"Look at this beaming child! When joy visits, how does your chest feel? Warm like sunshine! What about your toes? Do they want to bounce? Show me your joyful bouncy feet while staying seated!"
Teacher Prompt: "Who can name two body clues for happy? Warm chest, bubbly tummy, bouncy toes!"
Slide 4: Anger & Big Heat (Tight Fists & Hot Cheeks) Action Check
"When anger rushes in, our body turns into a mini volcano! Squeeze your fists tight like lemons. Feel your cheeks get hot and red! Anger is okay to feel, but our body clues tell us: 'I need to cool down!'"
Teacher Prompt: "Squeeze lemons for 3 seconds... 1, 2, 3... and let go! Notice the loose, floppy feeling."

Active Movement, Booklet & Closure
Phases 3, 4 & 5
Phase 3: Signal Freeze Dance (15-22 Mins)
Movement Game
Rules: Play upbeat music or shake tambourine. When music stops, hold up a Signal Card. Children freeze in the body clue posture!
Card 1: Happy Bouncer
Prompt: "Freeze! Hands on warm heart, bright smiling mouth, light soft tip-toes!"
Card 2: Belly Butterflies
Prompt: "Freeze! Hands on tummy doing fluttery butterfly wings! Fast thump-thump heartbeat!"
Card 3: Volcano Tight
Prompt: "Freeze! Clenched fists by sides, stompy rigid legs, steaming hot puff cheeks!"
Card 4: Calm Anchor
Prompt: "Freeze! Heavy relaxed shoulders melting down, slow steady tummy breathing."
Phase 4: Inside Out Journal Drawing (22-27 Mins)
Table Work
"Head to your tables like quiet ninja detectives. In your 'My Inside Out' booklet, look at the body outline. Pick two colors: maybe bright yellow or warm red for your warm heart and hot cheeks, or purple flutter marks on your belly! Draw where your body whispers to you."
• Circulate and ask: "Tell me what sensation you drew in the chest/tummy." 5 Minutes
Phase 5: Partner Share & Closure (27-30 Mins)
Closing Circle
Knee-to-Knee Partner Prompt:
"Turn knee-to-knee with your neighbor. Point to one clue on your drawing and say: 'When I feel [happy/worried], my body feels [fluttery/warm]!'"
Closing Call & Response Chant:
Teacher: "Listen to your feet, listen to your heart!"
Students: "Our body tells the story from the very start!"
Kindergarten Tips & Differentiation
⚠️ Common Misconception:
Children may equate body signals to being sick (e.g., "Tummy butterflies mean I have a virus!"). Clarify that emotions have normal, healthy body rhythms.
🌟 Multi-Sensory Scaffolding:
For non-verbal or EL students, provide the visual emotion pointer card or have them demonstrate physical gestures (fist clench, belly tap).
