π° Pip's Fluttery Tummy
Focus: Normalizing anxiety, identifying body cues & taking calming breaths
Teacher Note Before Reading: Gather students on the rug. Ask children to place one hand on their belly and one hand on their heart. Introduce Pip as a young bunny attending his very first day at Sunflower Kindergarten. Encourage students to join in whenever you model a breath or sound!
SCENE 1: The Yellow Classroom Door Expressive / Wondering Tone
Pip the bunny tightened the straps on his bright blue backpack. His long velvet ears twitched up, then down, then sideways. Outside the kindergarten door, children were laughing, waving goodbye to grown-ups, and building giant block towers.
Say expressively: "Pip had a big feeling inside his belly. It didnβt feel like hunger. It felt like tiny, fluttering butterfly wings flutter-flutter-fluttering!"
Interactive Choral Action: "Kindergarteners, flutter your fingers on your tummy like Pip's butterflies. Has your tummy ever felt fluttery when doing something brand new?" (Allow 3-4 children to nod or share 1-word responses: "Yes!", "First day car ride", "Meeting teacher".)
SCENE 2: The Hallway Pause Gentle Whisper Tone
"I want to go back under my warm blanket," Pip whispered to his mama. Mama Bunny knelt down so their noses touched. She tapped Pip's chest gently. "Pip," she smiled, "that fluttery feeling has a name. It is called being nervous . And nervous is just your heart getting ready to be brave ."
"Can I be nervous and brave at the same time?" asked Pip, his ears drooping low. "Always," said Mama Bunny. "Even big bunnies feel nervous when they start an adventure."
Turn-and-Talk (15 Seconds): "Turn to your rug buddy and whisper: 'You can be nervous and brave!' " Model tapping shoulders and smiling warmly with your co-teacher or student helper.

SCENE 3: The Calming Balloon & A New Friend Warm & Reassuring
Mama Bunny took Pip's paws. "Let's blow up our balloon tummy," she whispered. Pip breathed in through his noseβ1, 2, 3 βhis tummy puffed out round like a ripe peach. Then he blew the air out slowlyβwhoooosh . The fluttery butterflies inside him folded their wings and rested.
Pip stepped into the room. A friendly bear named Barnaby held up a bright green crayon. "Do you want to color dinosaurs with me?" Barnaby asked. Pip felt a warm glow spread from his toes right to the tips of his long ears. That feeling was called and !
