Day 1: What Are Expected Behaviors? (Following Directions)
Core Clue: Green Choices
Concept: "Expected behaviors" are choices that help everyone feel safe, calm, and ready to learn. Following directions the first time is our top clue!
Teacher Script: "Put on your detective hats! Today we are looking for expected behaviors. When I say 'Freeze like a statue,' let's see how fast our listening ears help us freeze!"
Active Routine (3 min):
Play "Freeze & Follow." Give 3 rapid directions: 1) Hands in lap, 2) Eyes on speaker, 3) Quiet lips. Celebrate instant responses!
Quick Check & Tracker (1 min):
Students identify why freezing fast keeps us safe. Color Day 1 "Listening Star" on tracker.
2
Day 2: The Personal Space Bubble (Respecting Others)
Core Clue: Safe Perimeter
Concept: Every student has an invisible bubble around their body. Unexpected popping happens when we bump, lean, or crowd friends.
Teacher Script: "Show me your bubble! Reach your arms out gently and draw an imaginary circle in the air. If your hands touch anyone, take one step back so no bubbles pop!"
Active Routine (3 min):
"Bubble Walk": Practice standing in line and sitting on the carpet without popping a neighbor's bubble. Test with gentle movements.
Quick Check & Tracker (1 min):
Ask: "What does an intact bubble feel like? Safe and comfortable!" Color Day 2 "Bubble Star".

Day 3: Safe Hands, Feet, & Objects (Safe Choices)
Core Clue: Body Safety
Concept: Unexpected behaviors like running inside, grabbing toys, or kicking make the room unsafe. Expected choices protect our bodies and friends.
Teacher Script: "Detectives keep everyone safe! Our hands build, help, and share. If we run inside, what could happen? That's unexpected! Let's practice calm, steady walking feet."
Active Routine (3 min):
Model 2 contrasting actions: grab vs. asking nicely ("May I please have a turn?"). Students give immediate Thumbs-Up or Thumbs-Down.
Quick Check & Tracker (1 min):
Practice the "Calm Hands in Lap" pose. Students stamp or color the Day 3 "Safe Choices Star".
4
Day 4: Mystery Clues: Sorting Expected vs. Unexpected
Core Clue: Scenario Detective
Concept: Applying knowledge! Detectives examine visual cards and quickly categorize behaviors as Expected (Green Mat) or Unexpected (Orange Mat).
Teacher Script: "Here is clue card #1: A student is whispering during storytime. Is that expected or unexpected? Let's sort it onto our detective mat!"
Active Routine (3 min):
Draw 3-4 Practice Cards from the set. Call on student to place card on the correct mat and explain the reason in 5 words or less.
Quick Check & Tracker (1 min):
Sing the 2-line behavior chant: "Eyes are watching, ears are on, safe choices all day long!" Color Day 4 "Detective Star".
5
Day 5: Detective Graduation & Celebration
Core Clue: Certified Champion
Concept: Celebrate progress, review the 3 core pillars (Listening, Bubble Space, Safe Hands), and earn the official Behavior Detective badge!
Teacher Script: "You solved all the behavior cases! Who can show me their space bubble? Who can show me quiet listening ears? You are official Behavior Detectives!"
Active Routine (3 min):
Lightning round! Teacher acts out 3 quick pantomimes. Class whispers in unison: "Expected!" or "Unexpected!"
Quick Check & Tracker (1 min):
Award final Day 5 Gold Star and sign official Certificate on tracker sheet. High-five or air-fist-bump!
Kindergarten Accommodations & Kinesthetic Cues
Non-Verbal Cues: Tap ear for listening, cup hands like a globe for bubble space, flat hands for safe hands.
Sensory Support: Use a round carpet spot or masking tape square for students needing tactile boundary lines.
Positive Reframing: Say "What is the expected choice here?" rather than "Stop doing that unexpected thing."

"The Case of the Wobbly Day" — A Story of Expected & Unexpected Choices
Read Time: 6–8 Min
Interactive Carpet Story
Pre-Reading Carpet Hook (30 Seconds): "Put on your invisible detective trench coats! Today we are helping Detective Pip, a puppy who is learning the secret clues to having an expected, safe school day. Make your detective goggles with your fingers!"
1
Scene 1: The Wobbly Morning Circle
Clue #1: Listening Ears
Pip the puppy burst through the classroom door with wagging ears and bouncy paws. He had his shiny magnifying glass badge, but his body felt like a bag of popping popcorn! When Teacher Owl called, "Time for morning meeting, little detectives!" Pip zoomed right past the rug. He climbed on top of a chair and barked loudly, "Look at me, I'm a superhero detective!"
His classmates covered their ears. Teacher Owl gently smiled and tapped her ear. "Pip, when voices are booming and bodies are bouncing while others are listening, that feels unexpected . It makes our detective team feel confused and startled."
Detective Pause & Check:
"Detectives, what expected choice can Pip make right now with his paws and his voice? Show me with your whole body listening!" (Students fold hands in lap and show quiet lips).
2
Scene 2: The Great Bubble Trouble
Clue #2: Space Bubble
Pip sat down, took a deep puppy breath, and whispered, "I'm ready!" Next came line-up time for recess. Pip was so excited to be first that he sprinted to the door. BUMP! He leaned right into Bella Bunny’s back and knocked her floppy hat askew.
"Ouch, Pip! You popped my invisible bubble!" squeaked Bella. Pip blinked. "A bubble? But I don't see any soap!" Teacher Owl gently held out her arms in a soft circle. "Every detective carries an imaginary personal space bubble. When we crowd, lean, or bump into our friends, their bubble pops and they feel squished!"
Interactive Kinesthetic Test:
"Detectives, inflate your space bubble! Blow a quiet puff of air and draw your round circle. Take one gentle step back so nobody's bubble pops." (Class models safe bubble perimeter).

Scene 3: The Falling Blocks & Safe Paws
Clue #3: Safe Hands & Feet
Pip took two steps back and gave Bella a friendly thumb-up. Her bubble was safe! In the afternoon, Pip was stacking tall wooden blocks to build a grand Detective Headquarters. Suddenly, A stray red block tumbled down. Pip felt a hot wave of frustration rise up in his chest. His paws clenched into fists. He wanted to kick the blocks across the rug!
