A two-part counselor-led sequence designed to guide high school freshmen through the Naviance AchieveWorks personality assessment. Students decode their personality types, explore career paths, analyze collaborative dynamics, and set goals for their high school transition.
• Answer according to who you are at home or with your best friends—not who you are trying to be at school.
• Go with your first gut instinct; do not overthink individual items.
• This takes about 20 minutes to complete. Do not rush, but maintain a solid pace.

Growth and Grit Planner
Part 2 Designing Dream Teams (12 Minutes)
Show slides explaining team composition. Discuss how a team of all Checklist Creators (Judgers) might plan perfectly but lack creative spark, while a team of all Idea Generators (Intuitives/Perceivers) might brainstorm endlessly but never submit the assignment.
Part 3 Science Fair Simulation Facilitation (15 Minutes)
Guide students to Section 2 of their planner (The Dream Team Simulation). Students read the scenario: a three-person group must design a science fair project, but personalities clash. Students must assign specific roles matching each profile and design a resolution script.
Counselor Action: Walk around the room and challenge student answers. Say: "If Sam is an INTJ (logical, organized planner), is it smart to put him in charge of designing the colorful visual artistic board? Or should he manage the timeline and analysis?" Encourage leveraging differences.
Part 4 SMART Goal Construction (12 Minutes)
Guide students to Section 3 of their planner. Instruct them to convert personality awareness into actual freshman goals.
Academic Target:
Using study tips tailored to their cognitive scale (e.g., Sensing: flashcards; Intuition: study mind maps).
Social Target:
Balancing energy levels and improving active listening in class or high school social circles.
Counselor Wrap-up Data Tracking & Exit Collection (3 Minutes)
Collect the Growth and Grit Planners. Use these completed plans to identify students needing intervention (e.g., those who indicated massive academic stress or struggle with social transition on their exit checks). Return photocopies of goals to students for their binders.

• Agree on a compromise timeline: check-ins early on, with room for design changes at the end.
• Value logical critiques without taking them as personal attacks.
Recognizing style conflicts allows you to solve them logically!
The Science Fair Simulation
04 / 06
Analyzing Group Friction
On Section 2 of your planner, read the scenario involving Maya (ESFJ), Liam (INFP), and Sophia (INTJ).
They have 48 hours to complete their science fair project, and communications have completely broken down.
Your Mission with a Partner:
• Identify the core personality clash causing friction.
• Assign roles that align with each student's natural strengths.
• Write a short, active script showing how they resolve their tension.
Take 10 minutes to analyze and complete Section 2.
Work constructively with your shoulder partner!
Setting Personality Growth Targets
05 / 06
Target Your Freshman Success
Now, apply these self-discoveries directly to your transition goals. Use Section 3 of your planner to construct:
One Academic Goal: How will your cognitive preferences improve your studying or task completion?
One Social Goal: How will your scales improve your relationships or stress management?
Pointers for Strong Goals:
• Sensing (S): Study with physical facts, concrete examples, or scheduled flashcards.
• Intuition (N): Use mind maps, conceptual groupings, and active design.
• Judging (J): Goal should focus on building flexible breaks and avoiding panic when plans shift.
• Perceiving (P): Goal should focus on setting intermediate checkpoints to avoid midnight scrambles.
Complete your planner, sign the Commitment Box, and submit to your counselor!
