When our bodies are stressed or depleted, our "vulnerability gap" widens. This means we are more likely to react intensely to small things. Use this worksheet to map out your personal biological triggers.

Lesson 1: Foundations
Time: 50 Minutes
Core Objective
Students will understand that emotional resilience is biologically based. By the end of this lesson, they should be able to define "emotional vulnerability" and identify at least three physical triggers that lower their emotional threshold.
The Hook: The "Hangry" Simulation
Activity Setup
Materials: 3 extremely difficult logic puzzles or tangrams, 3 easy ones.
Condition A (Depleted): Students are told they have had 2 hours of sleep, missed lunch, and are recovering from a cold. They must solve the difficult puzzle in 3 minutes.
Condition B (Optimal): Students are told they are well-rested, had a healthy breakfast, and feel great. They solve the easy puzzle.
Twist: Do not tell them the puzzles are different levels of difficulty initially. Let the "depleted" group experience the frustration of failing a hard task while feeling "weak."
Key Terms
Baseline Your "normal" state of calm.

"Adolescents often feel their emotions are 'wrong' or 'too much.' Reframing intense emotions as a biological symptom of depletion removes shame and empowers them to take physical action."

Ask: "Group A, how did it feel when you couldn't get the puzzle? What was your internal monologue like?"
Expected answers: "I wanted to give up," "I felt stupid," "I was annoyed at the timer."

Connecting to the Brain
Explain: "When you are hungry or tired, your Amygdala (the alarm) is on high alert. Your Prefrontal Cortex (the boss) is too tired to work. This creates the Vulnerability Gap ."
Lowered threshold = Tiny sparks cause big fires.
High intensity = The fire burns hotter.
Long recovery = The fire takes forever to go out.
