League Commissioner Guide
6 Sessions
The Commissioner's Mandate
Welcome to The Attendance League . This curriculum uses fantasy sports mechanics, tabletop gaming, and direct team accountability to motivate 6th-grade boys. As League Commissioner , your job is to fuel positive competition, frame attendance as team sportsmanship, and help students overcome morning barriers.
The Regular Season Playbook
1 Draft Day Kickoff
Students are drafted, form franchises, design logos, and sign official attendance contracts.
2 Defensive Playbook
Identify "opponents" (barriers like morning chaos or oversleeping) and design defensive plays to block them.
3 Halftime Shootout
Calculate attendance points and play the Desk Basketball Shootout game using critical strategy trivia.
4 Assist Leaders
Identify "assist-makers" (staff, parents, peers) and practice building clear, effective "pass plays" for help.
5 Bouncing Back
Analyze attendance "fumbles" (absences). Use the Instant Replay method to identify breakdowns and recover.
6 Championship Rings
Calculate final standings, draft goals for next quarter, and customize/award paper Attendance Championship Rings.
League Scoreboard & Stats System
To maintain high momentum, students earn Attendance Points every week. Teams compete on a shared tracking poster. Use the system below to calculate scores at the start of Sessions 2–6:
Stat Category Points In-Game Impact Perfect Week (Present 5/5 Days) +100 pts Earns a "Perfect Game" bonus sticker and 3 table game action cards. Tabletop Arena Games
To build intense interest and team bonds, the final 15 minutes of selected sessions feature active tabletop sports games. Matchups are determined by current attendance standing, and shot attempts are earned through team quiz questions.
Game 1: Flick-Goal Football (Session 1 & 5) Flick Match
Equipment: Folded triangular paper football (provided template or made in session) & small paper table-posts.
Gameplay: Teams take turns sliding the paper football across the desk scoreboard. If any part of the paper football hangs over the opposite edge without falling off, the team scores a touchdown (6 points). They can then attempt a field goal (flicked through partner's finger goalposts) for 1 extra point.
Game 2: Halftime Shootout (Session 3) Target Shot
Equipment: Mini crumpled paper balls, plastic cup hoop taped to desk edge.
Gameplay: Students earn shots by correctly identifying attendance strategies or answering scenarios (e.g., "What's a backup option if you miss the school bus?"). Players take 3 shots from different distances (1-foot, 2-feet, 3-feet) marked on the desk. Each distance maps to 1, 2, or 3 league points.
Commissioner Pro-Tips
Celebrate the "Almost-Perfect" Wins: While 100% attendance is the ultimate target, recognize and reward "Most Improved" players. Frame progress as a late-game comeback!
Defuse Blame Immediately: If a team falls in standing because of a member's absences, remind them: "Even championship teams lose games. Good teammates don't pointing fingers—they run support plays."
Utilize the Visual Scoreboard: Keep the poster scoreboard visible in your workspace. Updating points at the very beginning of each session creates a focused, anticipation-filled routine.

Phase 1: Scouting the Opponent
Every champion studies game tape. Below are four elite "Attendance Opponents" that block students from arriving on time. Circle your team's primary opponent (the one that hurts your attendance the most):
The Snoozer ⏰ Oversleeping or refusing to get out of bed.
The Rush 🎒 Morning chaos, lost shoes, or packed bags.
The Drain 🥱 Feeling low energy, late gaming, or fatigue.
The Blitz 🚌 Missed bus, car issues, or walking struggles.
Phase 2: Draw the Defensive "Block" Play
How will you block your selected opponent? Use the chalkboard workspace below. Use O's for yourself, X's for the opponent, and arrows to show your action (e.g., arrow to a second backup alarm clock!).

Q2: Heavy Fog/Late Ride 🚌 Your morning ride falls through at the last minute. What is your secondary backup plan?
Q3: Fatigue Defense 🥱 You feel exhausted on a Thursday morning and want to stay home. How do you bypass this?
Q4: The Friday Trap 🗓️ Why is showing up on Friday just as critical for your team standings as Monday?

Phase 1: Your Assist Roster
In sports, an assist is a pass that directly leads to a score. Nobody makes it to school alone. Identify the critical people in your life who can "assist" you in getting to class daily. Write their real names below:
🏠
Home Point Guard (Parent / Guardian) The person who wake you up, cooks breakfast, or gets you out the door.
🎒
School Center (Friend / Classmate) The loyal friend who walks with you, meets you at lockers, or rides the bus.
👔
Head Coach (Teacher / Coach) The teacher, athletic coach, or counselor who keeps you focused and checks in.
🚌
Team Trainer (School Support Staff) The bus driver, security guard, cafeteria staff, or office worker who supports you.
Phase 2: Drawing Up the "Pass Play"
When an attendance obstacle double-teams you, you need to "pass the ball" and ask for help. Complete the real-world pass plays below:
Pass Play 1: Morning Wakeup Assist ⏰
If you have trouble waking up on time, write down exactly how you will ask your Home Point Guard to assist you tonight:
"Hey, tonight could we agree that..."
Pass Play 2: Bus Missed Backup 🚌
If your alarm fails or you miss your morning bus, write down exactly what text or call you will make to secure a backup ride:
"I missed the bus. Is there any way you can help me by..."
Phase 3: Give Back the Assist
Championship players also provide assists. Write down one specific action you will take this week to assist a classmate or franchise partner in arriving on time:

Phase 1: Anatomy of an Attendance Fumble
In football, a fumble occurs when a player drops the ball. In the Attendance League, a fumble is an absence or a tardy. Even legendary athletes fumble—the difference is how quickly they recover! Think of your most recent "attendance fumble" (or a common morning slip-up) and dissect it:
Where did the fumble occur? Was it a Monday morning after a late weekend? A cold rainy day? A specific class period?
What caused the loose ball? Did you stay up late gaming? Was it morning tiredness, low motivation, or forgotten homework anxiety?
Phase 2: The Instant Replay Review
Let's review the "game tape" in slow motion. Write out the exact sequence of events that led to the attendance fumble, starting from the night before:
Replay Frame 1 The Night Before (Sleep/Habits):
Replay Frame 2 The Wake-up Call (Alarms/Energy):
Replay Frame 3 The Door Exit (Bus/Morning Hustle):

Phase 3: Fumble Recovery Plan
Write down 2 immediate "ball-recovery" actions you will take next week to secure your attendance and ensure the fumble doesn't happen again:
Recovery Play A (Night Prep)
Recovery Play B (Morning Push)
