Classroom Etiquette
How we organize our space, respect our time, and set ourselves up to succeed every single day.
1. Stow Belongings
2. No YouTube Tabs
3. Earbuds Away
Expectation 01
Safe Aisles • Clear Floors
Where Does Your Backpack Go?
Aisles must stay clear for walking, safety, and quick movement. Keep gear tucked away immediately upon entering.
Option A
Under Your Desk
Slide your backpack fully beneath your chair or under the desk frame. No straps in the walking aisles!
Keep both feet and bag under your station
Option B
On the Classroom Shelf
Place larger bags, gym sacks, or bulky gear flat into the assigned cubbies or wall shelving unit.
Grab needed materials before placing your bag
Never on the walkway or lap: Bags on empty chairs or in walkways create trip hazards and clutter.
Expectation 02
Digital Focus
No YouTube During Lecture Time
Your attention is your most valuable tool. Video feeds split your focus and distract peers sitting behind you.
Off Limits During Instruction
- Entertainment, gaming, or stream clips
- Music videos playing in background tabs
- Scrolling shorts, feeds, or trending videos
Rule: If someone is teaching, YouTube stays closed.
When Videos ARE Allowed
- Teacher assigns a specific tutorial link
- Research station activity with direct permission
- Whole-class guided video demonstrations
Permission required: Always wait for teacher direction.
Laptops during lecture: Keep screens at half-mast or closed when requested!
Expectation 03
Audio Etiquette
Tune In: No Music During Lecture
Direct instruction requires two working ears. Keep earbuds removed and sound muted while the class is learning together.
Earbuds Out
Both earbuds must be completely out of your ears. Having "one ear in" still divides your attention.
Stow in your case or bag
Over-Ear Headsets
Rest headsets on your desk or inside your bag. Wearing them on your neck is tempting and distracting.
Off the neck & off the head
When Can I Listen?
During designated silent independent work, the teacher will announce if low-volume playlists are permitted.
Wait for the green light!
Respect for the speaker: When peers or teachers speak, full attention shows respect for their voice.
The Purpose
Why These Rules Exist
Protecting Our Shared Time
These expectations aren't about control—they are about creating an environment where everyone can thrive.
01
Physical Safety
Clear floors mean nobody trips, emergency exits remain accessible, and teachers can move around to support you.
02
Mental Focus
Multitasking with video feeds drains brain power. Cutting distractions means finishing classwork faster with less homework.
03
Mutual Respect
When anyone has the floor, listening communicates that what they are sharing is valued by the entire community.
"Work hard during lecture, so you have complete freedom during work time."
