Champ Listens and Stays Safe
A social story about making safe choices, protecting friends, and helping our classroom
Meet Champ!
"Woof! I love our classroom! When we listen to our teachers, we all stay safe, happy, and ready to learn!"
Listening is Safe
My teacher knows how to keep everyone safe. When I listen right away, my body is safe, my friends are safe, and we have fun learning together.
Not Listening is Unsafe
When I do not listen, it is unsafe. I might miss directions, get hurt, or accidentally hurt a classmate. Making unsafe choices makes learning hard.

WALK
1. I Use Walking Feet
Safe Choice
Our classroom is a busy place with tables, chairs, backpacks, and friends. I do not run in the classroom. Running inside is unsafe because I could slip, trip over a rug, bump into furniture, or knock into a friend.
Champ says: "I use slow walking paws! Walking keeps my paws on the floor and my friends safe."
What Safe Looks Like:
- Walking calmly to my desk or cubby.
- Looking ahead so I don't bump into friends.
- Keeping my feet flat on the floor.
Why Running is Unsafe:
- I can lose my balance and get hurt.
- I might spill pencils or knock over a desk.
- Friends can feel scared or get bumped.
RESPECT
2. I Do Not Take Things That Are Not Mine
Kind Choice
There are many fun items at school: special markers, books, water bottles, and toys. I do not take things that do not belong to me. Taking items without asking makes classmates feel sad, upset, or worried.
Champ says: "Use polite words! Ask: 'May I please borrow this pencil when you are done?'"
Quick Check: What should I do if I see a cool marker on a friend's desk?
Ask first or leave it!

Listening to My Teacher • Voices & Hallways
Safe Listener
QUIET
3. I Do Not Shout Out When Teachers Are Teaching
Calm Voice
When my teacher is teaching, it is listening time. I do not shout out answers or talk over my teacher. If I shout out, other students cannot hear the lesson and my teacher cannot teach safely. I raise my quiet hand and wait for my teacher to call on me.
Champ says: "My ears are open, my mouth is closed, and my hand goes up quietly!"
SIT SAFE
4. I Sit Safely on the Carpet and in My Chair
Safe Body
Where I sit matters! On the carpet, I sit criss-cross with my hands in my lap so everyone has personal space. In my chair, I keep all four chair legs flat on the floor. I do not tip back because tipping can cause a dangerous fall.
Champ says: "Paws in my lap, eyes on the speaker, calm body ready to learn!"
HALLWAY
5. I Walk in the Hallway with Hands at My Side
Hallway Hero
When our class travels to music, art, lunch, or recess, I walk quietly. I keep my hands down at my sides. I do not touch the walls, push friends, or run ahead. This keeps the whole school quiet and safe!
