THE REACTION
Every Word Matters
Every Word is a Spark ⚡️
The words we say to our classmates don't just float away. They land somewhere, and they cause a quick reaction.
🔥
Some words are wild fires. They start small but end up hurting and burning people's feelings.
☀️
Some words are sunshine sparks. They warm up the room and make everyone feel safe to be themselves.
What kind of sparks are we throwing out?
Let's look closer
SPARK TYPES
Comparison
Wrecking Sparks
Sparks that burn and hurt
- ✕ Teasing someone to get a quick laugh
- ✕ Sarcastic jokes ("Nice job, slow poke!")
- ✕ Excluding others to fit in with a group
Building Sparks
Sparks that warm and connect
- ✓ Genuine compliments ("That's cool!")
- ✓ Standing up for someone being teased
- ✓ Inviting someone to play with you

TURN & TALK
Class Reflection
THE "JUST KIDDING!" TRAP
Is it actually funny?
Sometimes, we say a mean comment, but we add "just kidding!" at the end. We do this so we won't get in trouble, or because we hope other kids will laugh.
Talk with your partner:
🗣️
Question 1
Does saying "just kidding" stop a tease from hurting a classmate's feelings?
🗣️
Question 2
Why is it hard to speak up when everyone else is laughing at a mean joke?
Timer: 2 Minutes to Share!
Be real and honest with your partner.
Let's look at why we do it
SELF AWARENESS
Belonging & Safety
The Truth: We All Want to Fit In ❤️
Sometimes, we pick on others because we want to look cool, funny, or strong in front of our friends.
Conforming Spark
Putting someone down so you can feel like you "fit in" with the laughing crowd. It makes the classroom feel unsafe.
Real Crew Strength
Having the self-control to say, "Hey, let's not tease them." True belonging means being proud of who you are without making others small.
Real power is lifting others up.

SCENARIO LAB
Practice Case #2
What is happening here?
Scenario #2
"Maya is looking everywhere for her lunchbox and starts crying. A classmate says, ‘Did you lose your brain too?’ and laughs. Two other kids join in and point at Maya."
The Behind-the-Scenes:
Why does laughing make Maya feel even more excluded and lonely? (Answer: Because it makes her feel completely isolated.)
The Word Builder Action:
What is a supportive Building Spark comment that can change this whole scene?
It takes self-control to not laugh along.
