Learning Goal
Students will identify personal goals and create a visual representation (Vision Board) to boost motivation and clarity for their future.
Preparation
Gather a variety of magazines (travel, fitness, science, art). Print enough Goal Setting Worksheets and Prompt Cards for each student.
Lesson Steps
5 min
Phase 1
Introduction
Define vision boards: tools to visualize success and maintain focus on personal aspirations.
Explain that today is about "dreaming with purpose"—finding the bridge between thoughts and visual reminders.
10 min
Phase 2
Brainstorming Goals
Distribute the Goal Setting Worksheet .
Have students list 3 short-term (6 months) and 3 long-term (5 years) goals.
Encourage them to think about academics, career, health, and personal growth.
20 min
Phase 3
Creating the Vision Boards
Provide magazines and Inspiration Prompt Cards .
Instruct students to cut out images, words, or phrases that "spark" something in them regarding their goals.
Constraint: Focus on things that represent the *feeling* of achieving the goal, not just the physical item.
Glue these into a collage on the poster board.
10 min
Phase 4
Reflection & Sharing
Pair up to share one significant element from their board.
Use the Discussion Guide for a whole-group wrap-up.
Ask: "What was the most surprising thing you included?"
2 min
Phase 5
Closure
Challenge students to place their boards somewhere they see every morning (like a bedroom mirror or desk).
Reinforce: A goal without a plan is just a wish; the board is the start of the plan.

Facilitation Tips
Use this guide to facilitate a deep-dive conversation after students have finished their boards. Encourage vulnerability and active listening. Remind students that goals are personal—there are no "wrong" dreams.
01
What was the most significant goal you included on your vision board? Why?
Teacher Prompts:
"Was this a goal you already had, or did it emerge while you were looking through the magazines?"
"What does achieving this goal look like in your daily life?"
Encourage students to look beyond just the "what" and explain the "why" behind their choice.
02
How do you plan to achieve one of the goals on your vision board?
Teacher Prompts:
"What is the very first step you can take *this week*?"
"Who is someone who can help you reach this goal?"
"What resources (books, classes, gear) might you need to start?"
03
How did creating a vision board help you think about your future?
Teacher Prompts:
"Did seeing all your goals in one place make the future feel more exciting or more daunting?"
"Did you notice any themes (e.g., travel, helping others, being creative)?"
Discuss the "Mental Contrasting" effect: visualizing the goal and identifying the hurdles.
04
Did you learn anything new about yourself while creating your vision board?
Teacher Prompts:
"Were there any goals you thought you had that didn't end up on the board?"
"Did you find yourself drawn to specific colors or types of imagery?"
Encourage sharing of realizations like "I realized I value community more than money" or "I really want to prioritize my mental health."
Closing Insight
The board is a "living document." Encourage students to update it as they grow and their aspirations shift.
