Vampire Loves Vanilla
A Story About Different Tastes
Teacher Tip: Use a deep, dramatic voice for Victor and a light, bubbly voice for Penelope! When the Narrator speaks, use a calm, storybook tone.
Intro
Teacher: Good morning, everyone! Today, we're going to read a very special story about two friends who discover something important about liking different things. Listen carefully!
Narrator
Once upon a time, in a slightly spooky, but mostly friendly neighborhood lived two friends: Victor the Vampire and Penelope the Pixie. Victor lived in a tall, creaky castle, and Penelope lived in a daisy-filled cottage next door. They loved playing together, but they had very, very different tastes.
Victor
"Ah, Penelope, my dear friend! What a glorious evening for... a midnight snack of my favorite vanilla bean ice cream! It's so creamy, so sweet, so perfectly... vanilla! There is no other flavor quite like it."
Penelope
"Oh, Victor! Vanilla? Again? But it's so plain! Don't you want something exciting and vibrant, like my magnificent mango sorbet? It’s bursting with juicy, tangy flavor! It makes my wings tingle with delight!"
Victor
"Mango? Tingly wings? My dear Penelope, that sounds far too... fruitful for a vampire of my refined palate. Give me the calm, comforting taste of vanilla any day. It’s a classic!"
Penelope
"And I say vanilla is just… boring! Imagine all the wonderful flavors you're missing out on! Like my super-sour strawberry gummies! Or my bubbly blueberry soda!"
Victor
"Sour gummies? Bubbly soda? Penelope, you jest! My fangs prefer the smooth elegance of a vanilla milkshake, not something that makes my teeth ache!"
Narrator
Victor and Penelope would often go back and forth like this. Victor couldn't understand why Penelope loved those bright, bold flavors, and Penelope couldn't imagine why Victor stuck to simple vanilla. One sunny afternoon, they decided to have a picnic.
Victor
"You know, Penelope, even though your fruit tarts look… very colorful, I still think my vanilla cupcake is the best. It reminds me of peaceful moonlight."
Penelope
"And Victor, your vanilla cupcake looks very… white, but my fruit tarts remind me of a joyful sunbeam! It's just so full of different tastes!"
Victor has an idea...
Victor
"Penelope, we don't have to agree on which treat is the best for everyone. We can each have our own favorites! What makes you happy might not make me happy, and that's perfectly fine!"
Penelope
"You mean... you can love vanilla, and I can love mango, and we can still be best friends?"
Victor
"Exactly! Our differences make our friendship more interesting! Imagine if we both liked only vanilla! That would be... a bit dull, wouldn't it?"
Narrator
From that day on, they still had their favorite treats, but they understood something important. They learned that everyone has their own likes and dislikes, and that's what makes the world so wonderfully fun.
