What's Your Volume Level?
Teacher Notes: Welcome students and introduce the fun topic of voice volume. Ask them if they ever noticed how they change their voice depending on where they are.
Why Different Voices?
Have you ever shouted in a library? (Hopefully not!)
We change our voices to fit different places and times.
It helps us:
Be respectful
Learn better
Hear each other
Teacher Notes: Ask students: Why do we need different voice levels? Listen to their responses and guide them to understand the importance of respecting others' learning space.
🐌
Level 0: Gary's Silent Zone
NO TALKING
When to use it:
Listening carefully
Working silently
Taking a test
Goal:
To show respect and allow everyone to concentrate.
Teacher Notes: Introduce Gary as the 'No Talking' level. Emphasize independent work, tests, and listening. Demonstrate staying completely silent.
🍍
Level 1: SpongeBob's Whisper
WHISPER VOICE
When to use it:
Talking to one person nearby
Asking a secret question
Quiet work time
Goal:
To be quiet and not disturb others who are working.
Teacher Notes: Explain when a whisper is appropriate. Have them practice a soft whisper voice with a partner.
⭐
Level 2: Patrick's Inside Voice
NORMAL CONVERSATION
When to use it:
Talking to friends
Sharing ideas in a group
Asking the teacher a question
Goal:
To communicate clearly without being too loud or too quiet.
Teacher Notes: This is the default classroom voice. Practice a normal speaking voice. Explain that Patrick is friendly and loves to chat!

Level 3: Mr. Krabs' Outside Voice
OUTDOORS ONLY
When to use it:

Warm-Up
5 MINUTES
Teacher: "Good morning, Bikini Bottom... I mean, class! Today, we're going on an adventure to learn about something super important: our voices! Has anyone ever been told, 'Use your inside voice!' or 'Stop shouting!'?"
Teacher: "Our voices are amazing, but just like SpongeBob uses different tools for different jobs, we need to use different voice volumes for different places and times. Why do you think that is important?"
Listen to student responses, guide towards being respectful, helping others concentrate, and being heard appropriately.
The Characters
10 MINUTES
🐌 Level 0: Gary's Silent Zone
Teacher: "Meet Gary the Snail! Gary doesn't talk at all. He moves silently and communicates with 'meows.' When we are a Gary, it means NO TALKING . When do you think it's important to be a Gary?"
Prompt for answers like during a test, when the teacher is giving instructions, or during a story.
🍍 Level 1: SpongeBob's Whisper
Teacher: "Next up, we have SpongeBob! SpongeBob is full of energy, but sometimes he knows he needs to use a quiet voice. When we are a SpongeBob, we use a WHISPER VOICE . A whisper is a super soft voice, just loud enough for one or two people nearby. When might you use this?"
Prompt for answers like working with a partner or asking a quick question to a neighbor.
⭐ Level 2: Patrick's Inside Voice
Teacher: "Here comes Patrick Star! Patrick is friendly and loves to chat. When we are a Patrick, we use our INSIDE VOICE . This is our normal speaking voice—not too loud, not too quiet. It's the voice we use most of the time in the classroom."
Prompt for answers like sharing ideas, asking questions, or group work.
🦀 Level 3: Mr. Krabs' Outside Voice
Teacher: "Finally, we have Mr. Krabs! When we are a Mr. Krabs, we use our OUTSIDE VOICE . This is our loudest voice, meant ONLY for outside at recess. It's too loud for inside! When should we use this?"
Practice
