Goal Blueprint
Teacher Facilitation Guide
30 Minutes
Learning Objective
Identify SMART goal components and transform a vague goal into a detailed plan using a guided template.
Materials
Slide Deck, Blueprint Worksheet, Pens/Pencils.
Instructional Procedures
0-5 MIN
The Hook: Wish vs. Plan
Ask: "What's the difference between a wish and a plan?" Use example: "I wish I was rich" vs "I save $10/week."
5-15 MIN
The Breakdown: SMART Slides
Define each letter using the Slide Deck. Focus on one consistent example (e.g., passing a history test).
S: Specific (Exactly what?)
M: Measurable (How much/many?)
A: Achievable (Is it possible?)
R: Relevant (Does it matter to you?)
T: Time-bound (What is the deadline?)
15-25 MIN
Guided Practice: Building the Blueprint
Distribute worksheets. Model Section 1 and Section 2 on the board. Crucial: help students select a "small" enough goal to be achievable in one week.
Teacher Tip: If a student chooses "Be happy," prompt them with: "What is one small thing that makes you happy? Let's make that the goal."
25-30 MIN
Closing: Success Check
Quick share: Students tell a partner their deadline (the "T" in SMART). Collect worksheets for formative feedback.
Inclusion Strategies
- Visual Continuity: Keep SMART slide visible during writing.
- Verbal Prompting: Ask "How do you know you're finished?" for Measurable.
- Choice Boards: Provide 3 pre-written goals for students to pick and modify.
Common Roadblocks
- Goal is too big: Help them "slice" it into a daily task.
- Mixing M and T: Clarify that T is a date, M is a number/result.
