MODULE 02 // TRANSITION PROTOCOL
Finding Your Gravity
Entering middle school brings high-speed shifts. Different classrooms, complex hallways, and multiple teachers can make you feel weightless.
Remember: every astronaut feels pressure during ascent. Finding your gravity means noticing your emotions and using your safety tools.
Crew Reflection Prompt
"What is one simple trick you use when you feel a little lost or anxious?"
Check Your Orbit: Where are you today?
1
Orbiting Quietly
Observing, listening, and taking in surroundings calmly.
2
Steady Flight
Feeling balanced, organized, and ready to meet people.
3
Space Walk
Excited, curious, and eager to dive into activities.
4
Engine Flare
Feeling a bit overwhelmed or running on hyper-drive.

COMMUNICATION ARRAY
MODULE 03 // SOCIAL EXPANSION
Orbiting Together
No explorer conquers a new galaxy alone. Your classmates are your crew members—all navigating the same transition. Use these three social connection protocols:
Send the Signal
Initiate contact. Say hello, introduce yourself, and share a small starter question:
"Hey, I'm Tyler. Where did you go to school last year?"
Tune the Receiver
Active listening. Ask open-ended questions and lock onto the fun details:
"That's cool. What kind of books or games do you play?"
Align Your Orbits
Find shared ground. Join a club, sit at a new table, or work together on tasks:
"Do you want to team up for this group mission?"

MISSION CONTROL PROTOCOLS
MODULE 04 // SELF-ADVOCACY
Pinging Mission Control
In middle school, you are the pilot of your flight. Your teachers, counselors, and staff act as your Mission Control. Speaking up when you hit turbulence is a vital skill.
When to contact control:
- Locker combination won't unlock.
- Unsure how to find your next classroom.
- Confused about an assignment deadline.
The 3-Step Communication Protocol
1
Identify the Guide
Approach your teacher or counselor during transition times, work sessions, or after class.
2
State the Challenge Clearly
Use precise words: "I'm having trouble with..." or "Can you show me where..."
3
Log the Flight Path
Listen, repeat instructions back to verify, and write down key notes so you do not forget.

Mission Objectives
Every great explorer charts targets before takeoff. Growth mindset is your core engine fuel—it proves you can upgrade your abilities with strategic effort.
Academic Orbit
Choose one study routine or workspace habit to master:
- Clean and organize folders every Monday.
- Maintain a predictable daily homework slot.
- Check your digital course portal once a day.
Personal/Social Orbit
Choose one way to step outside your comfort zone:
- Try out for a school club, musical, or sport team.
- Sit with a new peer at lunch once a week.
- Ask questions early instead of waiting for exams.
🚀 CRITICAL PATHWAY: Reframe thoughts from "I cannot do this" to "I haven't mastered this YET."

CREW PROTOCOLS
MODULE 06 // COLLABORATIVE CODE
The Crew Codes
In space and school, collaboration is our lifesaver. We establish these ground rules to make sure our team functions at maximum safety and efficiency.
01. Share Airwaves
Practice active listening. Ensure every voice has a turn to broadcast. No interrupting when a team member is sharing thoughts.
02. Pull Weight
Every crew member has critical roles on a team project. Deliver your components on time and give your best focus.
03. Lift Others
Supportive language is non-negotiable. Lift people when they make mistakes, and celebrate team victories.
💡 Discussion Topic: "Which Crew Code is most important when group missions get tough?"

MODULE 07 // FINAL SEQUENCING
Your Ignition Sequence
The ultimate flight path starts with immediate, simple action steps. Complete these three coordinates today:
1. Scout Your Coordinates
Log where your classes are and map the paths between them during transitions.
2. Sync Your Communications
Say hello and introduce yourself to at least two brand new crew members today.
3. Prime Your Spacecraft
Organize your physical and digital supplies tonight. Clean systems prevent errors.
TRANSMISSION OVERRIDE
"The journey to sixth grade is a massive leap. But you have the raw potential, a stellar crew, and the ultimate flight kit to thrive. Trust the process, trust yourself, and let's make this journey iconic."

1. SYSTEM CHECK: WHERE IS YOUR ORBIT TODAY?
Review the four states from our flight training. Check the box of the orbit that best describes your feelings today, and explain why.
1. Orbiting Quietly
2. Steady Flight
3. Space Walk
4. Engine Flare
State your reasons below (What is causing this feeling?):
2. FLIGHT PLAN: CHOOSE YOUR ORBITS
Draft one academic goal (study skills, organization) and one personal goal (clubs, making friends, mindset) to pursue during this first flight.
ACADEMIC ORBIT GOAL
What organization or study habit do you want to master?
SOCIAL / PERSONAL GOAL
What social club, connection, or personal challenge will you try?
3. MISSION CONTROL: YOUR SUPPORT NETWORK
Write down the name of at least one classmate, one teacher/counselor, and one family member you can talk to when things get confusing or challenging.
CO-PILOT (Classmate) For assignment help or questions
FLIGHT COMMANDER (Teacher) For content or classroom guidance
BASE CAMP (Home Support) For family, coach, or counselor backup

LESSON SETUP & MATERIALS
This lesson aims to demystify middle school transitions by treating the transition as an "expedition." Prior to delivery, verify that the Sixth Grade Lift-Off Slide Deck is queued and printed copies of the Launchpad Flight Plan Worksheet are distributed to each student.
PACING & TIME ALLOCATIONS
10 MIN // INTRO
Introduce the space transition metaphor. Address expectations (Slide 1).
15 MIN // GRAVITY
Anxiety check-in (Slide 2). Complete Part 1 of student worksheet.
15 MIN // CONNECTIONS
Discussions on friendship (Slide 3) and asking teachers for help (Slide 4).
15 MIN // GOALS
Goal-setting & Network setup (Slides 5-6). Complete Parts 2 & 3 of worksheet.
FACILITATION PROTOCOL & SCRIPTS (SLIDES 1 - 4)
Slide 1: Title Slide (Welcome & Setup)
SCRIPT: "Welcome, explorers! Transitioning to sixth grade is a massive lift-off. It's an adventure into a completely new system. Today, we're building our flight plan so we can handle changes together."
Slide 2: Finding Your Gravity (Anxiety)
GUIDANCE: Guide students to evaluate their emotional state (1 to 4). Direct them to fill out Section 1 on their worksheet. Reassure them that feelings of 'Engine Flare' (anxiety) are completely standard during ascent.
Slide 3: Orbiting Together (Social Connections)
ACTIVITY: Practice 'Sending the Signal' in the room. Give students 60 seconds to pair up with a nearby classmate they didn't know well, make eye contact, and trade their names and elementary schools.
Slide 4: Pinging Mission Control (Self-Advocacy)
SCRIPT: "Astronauts don't guess if things go off-course—they ask Mission Control. Your middle school guides are your teachers. If a locker jams, say: 'Excuse me, my locker combination won't open. Can you support me?' Let's practice that formula."
