Warm-Up: Friendship Circles

Begin with the circle activity. Ask students to share one thing they like to do with a friend. Explain that good friendships involve sharing and taking turns.

Use slides 1-3. Follow the teacher script for key talking points. Ask: "What does sharing look like?" and "Why is it important to take turns?"

Divide into groups of 2-3. Give groups activity cards. Students take turns picking a card and discussing how they would share or take turns.

Warm-Up: Friendship Circles
Gather the students in a large circle on the rug.
"Good morning, friends! Today we're going to talk about something super important: being a good friend! To start, let's all sit in a big circle. I want each of you to think of one thing you like to do with a friend. When it's your turn, share your idea! I'll start: I love reading stories with my friends!"
Allow each student to share. Offer prompts if needed, e.g., "Do you like to play? Or draw? Or talk?"
"Wonderful ideas, everyone! It sounds like we all love spending time with our friends. And guess what? To make sure everyone has fun, there are some special things we can do. Today we're going to learn about sharing and taking turns!"

"Look at our first slide! It says 'Welcome to Our Friendship Circle!' Just like we talked about, being a good friend means making sure everyone feels happy and included."

"Our next slide is about 'Sharing Is Caring!' Can anyone tell me what sharing means?"
Wait for responses. Guide towards "letting others use your things".
"That's right! Sharing means letting others use our toys, like when you let a friend play with your favorite block. Or sharing snacks, like giving a friend a piece of your apple. Even sharing smiles and kind words is a way to share! When we share, we show we care. Why do you think sharing is important?"

"Now, let's look at 'Wait Your Turn!' Who can tell me what taking turns means?"
Wait for responses. Guide towards "waiting patiently".
"Exactly! Taking turns means waiting patiently for your chance, like waiting for the swing at the playground, or waiting for your turn in a game. It also means listening when someone else is talking! Why is it important to take turns?"

Activity: Sharing Is Caring

"When we share and take turns, we make our friendships stronger! Now, we're going to practice! I have some special cards called Sharing Is Caring Activity Cards. I'm going to divide you into small groups."
Divide students into groups of 2-3. Hand out activity cards.
"In your groups, you will get a set of these cards. Each card has a picture of a situation. I want you to take turns picking a card and talking about how you would share or take turns in that situation. Remember to listen to your friends' ideas!"

How to Lead This Activity

Gather all students in a large circle on the rug or in an open floor space. Ensure everyone can see each other.

Explain the prompt: "Think of one thing you love to do with a friend." Give them 10 seconds of "quiet thinking time."

Go around the circle, giving each student a chance to share. Use a "talking piece" (like a soft toy or ball) to help manage turn-taking .

Why this warm-up?
This activity helps students connect with the concept of friendship and sets the stage for discussing how sharing and turn-taking enhance those friendships. It also provides an immediate opportunity to practice the foundational skill of waiting for one's turn to speak.
