What's the Vibe Today?
Here is exactly what we are decoding in our session!
1. Family Space
Learn how to share boundaries and emotions clearly with parents or siblings without fights.
2. Anxiety Armor

3. Drama Decoder

The Power Talk Roadmap
Slide 2 of 11
The "You" Trap vs. "I" Power
Why small language shifts completely change the room's energy.
The "You" Trap
Starting sentences with "You..." feels like a finger pointing at the other person. They immediately get defensive!
"You always ignore me on purpose!"
Creates conflict and shuts down cooperation.
The "I" Power
Starting with "I feel..." keeps the focus on your real experience. It invites the other person to listen and help.
"I feel hurt when my text isn't replied to..."
Expresses boundaries and starts solutions.
The Power Shift
Slide 3 of 11
The Golden "I" Formula
Four simple blocks to design any boundary or request perfectly.
Block 1
I feel...
State your clear emotion.
"overwhelmed"
Block 2
...when...
Describe the specific event.
"people talk over me"
Block 3
...because...
Explain the personal reason.
"I can't think clearly"
Block 4
...I need...
Request a specific solution.
"one person to speak"
Super Pro Tip: Avoid the sneak-attack: "I feel like you...". Saying "I feel like you are being mean" is still a "You" statement in disguise! Stick to pure feelings.
The Power Equation
Slide 4 of 11
Scenario Room 1: Family Space
Talking boundaries & sharing emotions with parents or siblings.
The Trigger
No Privacy!
Your brother barges into your room while you're studying or hanging out, completely ignoring your closed door.
"You have no respect! Get out of my room right now!"
The Power-Talk Rewrite
I feel...
frustrated and distracted
when...
you walk into my room without knocking
because...
I lose my focus on my school work
I need...
you to knock and wait for my answer before entering
How it lands: "He stops to knock instead of reacting to an angry scream."

Scenario Room 2: Anxiety Armor
Expressing personal overwhelm, sensory stress, and panic spikes.
The Trigger
Sensory Overload
You've had an exhausting day at school, you're highly stressed, and the living room is incredibly loud. You feel a massive wave of panic/anxiety building up.
The Default Reaction
Slamming your bedroom door and shouting "Leave me alone, everyone is so loud!" when asked a simple question.
The Power Talk Translation
Instead of snapping, say:
"I feel completely overwhelmed right now because there's so much noise in here."
State your clear sensory need:
"I need to spend 20 minutes in quiet space in my room so I can reset."
This helps others understand you're stressed, not just angry at them!
Practice Room 2
Slide 6 of 11
Scenario Room 3: Friend Drama
Self-advocating over group chats and texting misunderstandings.
The Incident
Left on "Read"
Your close friend left your invite text on "Read," but then posted a selfie on her story hanging out with another friend. You feel excluded and highly anxious.
The Text Trap (Do not send!):
"Wow, fake friend alert. Nice of you to leave me on read and replace me."
C
Chloe (Bestie)
Hey, yeah I've been kinda busy today.
New Message (Rewrite)
"I felt really left out when I saw you posting stories after leaving me on read because I thought we were planning to hang out. Can we talk about it later?"
Type your feelings here...

Your Turn: Practice Arena
Let's co-create an "I" statement together during our call right now!
Pick a Scenario to Solve:
A
A friend spoils a movie you were excited to see online.
B
A parent asks you to clean up your room right while you're in the middle of a stressful test study session.
C
A sibling borrows your favorite clothes without asking.
Let's Build It!
"I feel..."
(How do you feel?)
"...when..."
(What did they do?)
"...because..."
(Why does it impact you?)
"...I need..."
(What is the solution?)

⚡ Power-Talk Speed Round!
Can you decode these real-life communication curveballs on the fly?
1. Sibling Drama
"Your sibling shares an embarrassing childhood photo of you in the family group chat."
Avoid: "Delete that now, you are literally the worst!"
2. Class stress
"The teacher calls on you suddenly in class while you're feeling an overwhelming wave of heart-pounding anxiety."
Avoid: Slamming your laptop or saying nothing/staring down.
3. Chat drama
"Your friend sends a cold, one-word text like 'K.' after you shared something super exciting."
Avoid: "What is your problem? Why are you being so rude?"
4. Peer tension
"A classmate whispers and giggles with her desk mate as soon as you walk past them in the hall."
Avoid: "What are you looking at? Mind your own business!"

Therapist Facilitation & Pacing Guide for Telehealth (Age 12)
Clinical Scaffolding
Clinical Focus Areas & Goals
Family Boundaries
Scaffold boundaries with siblings/parents. Focus on asserting physical and digital space without eliciting defensive arguments.
Anxiety Regulation
Help student name internal sensory and emotional overload before reaching a panic threshold, translating shutdown into a clear request.
Peer Relationships
Decode modern communication stressors (ignored texts, exclusion on social stories). Build digital self-advocacy skills.
Slide-by-Slide Facilitation & Pacing
Mins 0-10
Slides 1-3: Vibe Check & Language Shifts
Assess current stress levels. Use Slide 3 to contrast "You" and "I" statements. Ask the client: "When someone starts a sentence with 'You always...', how does your body feel?" Highlight muscle tension and defense posture.
Mins 10-18
Slide 4: The Golden Formula & The "Sneak-Attack"
Deconstruct the 4-part formula. Explicitly teach the difference between pure feelings (e.g., hurt, anxious, crowded) and accusatory statements disguised as feelings (e.g., "I feel like you are being mean").
Mins 18-28
Slides 5-7: Scenario Rooms (Family, Anxiety, Peers)
Interactive roleplay! Read the "trigger" scenes together. For Slide 6 (Anxiety), discuss physical signs of overload (chest tightness, noise sensitivity). For Slide 7 (Friend Drama), validate the very real hurt of digital exclusion.
Mins 28-38
Slide 8-9: Practice Arena & Speed Round
Co-write an "I" statement on Slide 8. Then, run the **Speed Round (Slide 9)**: guide the client through 4 rapid-fire scenarios (sibling chats, class anxiety, cold texting, hallway whispers) to test real-life responsiveness.
Mins 38-42
Slide 10: Blank Custom Statement Builder
Use Slide 10 as a blank co-creation slate. Work with the client to formulate a statement from her immediate life. Perfect for annotation, screen-sharing, or digital sticky notes on the telehealth platform.
Mins 42-45
Slide 11: Homework and Workbook
Recap checklist rules. Assign the **Power Talk Practice Workbook** (Page 1 has three scenario rewrites) and the **Weekly Tracker** (Page 2) for home practice.
Troubleshooting & Clinical Tips
If client shuts down:
Pivot away from heavy roleplay. Instead, ask her to write her responses inside a text block on screen or use emojis to select her emotional states on Slide 2.
