Instructional Timeline & Script
00-10 Min
Intro & Meet the Crew (Slides 1-2) Greet students. Introduce the monster metaphors. Explain that we can show feelings on our bodies. Ask: "How do we look when we are excited like Glee?"
10-20 Min
Frustration & Body Clues (Slides 3-4) Focus on Fizz. Teach the concept of frustration using the "shaken up soda" metaphor. Have students make tight fists and release them.
20-25 Min
The Cool-Down Cave (Slide 5) Lead a live practice of "Balloon Breathing". Instruct: "Inhale for 4 seconds, feel your hands move out on your belly. Exhale slowly." Repeat 3 times.
25-45 Min
Scenarios & Creation (Slides 6-8) Read the block tower and classroom scenarios. Solicit answers. Hand out the My Emotion Monster Worksheet for creative independent work.
Talk Starters
"Can you remember a time when you felt like Fizz? What were you trying to do?"
"Does your body give you clues when you are feeling worried or sad?"
"Why is it okay to have big monster moods?"
Teacher Tips
Misconception:
Students often confuse anger and frustration. Emphasize that frustration means "I need help or a pause to keep trying."
Differentiation:
For students with writing challenges, allow them to circle printed emojis or verbally dictate their body clues and strategy.
