Key Concept: Trustworthiness Begins Within
To be a person others can rely on, you have to be honest with yourself first. Your self-perception (how you view your skills, traits, and values) directly drives the everyday choices you make at school.
The 30-Minute Roadmap
1
Emoji Name Match (0-5 min)
Hook
Decode core personalities using emoji indicators. Identify which keywords match your current school vibe.
2
Seeing the Real You (5-15 min)
Discover
Analyze the difference between internal cues (your values, self-concept) and external cues (social media, peer pressure, reputations).
3
Identity Snapshot (15-20 min)
Reflect
Map out at least 2 key facets of your personal identity (hobbies, character values, strengths) and look closely in your "mirror."
4
The Pair-Share Mirror (20-25 min)
Connect
Turn to a peer. Share how how you view yourself influences one choice you make at school (e.g., class participation, group projects).
5
Trust Debrief (25-30 min)
Debrief
Bring it back to the whole group. Explore why self-honesty is essential to showing up as a trustworthy friend and student.

The Cues That Shape Us
Your self-concept is built from two completely different sources of information.
External Cues
Feedback from the outside world. This includes:
Social media likes & views
Peer feedback & reputations
Outside expectations & rules
Can change rapidly; highly fragile.
Internal Cues
Your own inner compass. This includes:
Your personal core values
Strengths, skills, & unique quirks
Knowing what drives you inside
Steady, solid; the root of self-honesty.
Which cue did you focus on most this morning? Next: The School Choice Connection
The Connection 15 - 20 Minutes
How Self-Perception
Drives Your Choices
The way you define yourself determines what actions feel "natural" to you in the hallways and classrooms of school.
If you see yourself as a helper: You naturally sit next to a lonely classmate or assist a teacher.
If you see yourself as a slacker: You might skip prep work or copy homework, thinking "that's just who I am."

Reflective Question
"What is one positive label you call yourself that makes school easier? What is one negative label that holds you back?"
Write your initial thoughts on the Snapshot sheet. Next: Pair-Share Mirror

Find Your Partner

2
Share 1 Facet
Read exactly ONE identity facet you wrote down on your Identity Snapshot Sheet.
3
Explain the Connect
Describe how that facet shapes one choice you make at school. Listen to their facet in return.
"Seeing someone else's self-concept helps us respect our own."
Keep responses supportive and honest. Next: Final Debrief
Group Debrief 25 - 30 Minutes
β
Trustworthiness Begins Within
If you are not honest with yourself about your strengths, flaws, and values, it is impossible to show up consistently for others.
Core Takeaway: To be trusted, first be true.
When you act according to your internal identity, your actions match your values. That is trust.

Teacher Prep
Pre-load the "Seeing the Real You" presentation. Hand out student material packets at the door.
1 Segment: Hook & Emoji Match
0-5 MIN
Focus: Warm up and identify present school identity vibes.
DO: Direct students to complete the Name Emoji Match. Project Slide 2.
SAY: "We're starting with a digital mirror. On your paper, choose three emojis that represent your inner energy right now. Think about who you are behind the social media posts."
2 Segment: Internal vs. External Identity
5-15 MIN
Focus: Connect self-concept to everyday behavioral cues.
DO: Project Slide 3 and Slide 4. Point out the distinction between outer reputation and inner values.
SAY: "External cues come from friends, parents, or algorithms. Internal cues come from your core values and real passions. Self-concept is the story you tell yourself. How we view ourselves defines how we act in class. If you label yourself as a helper, you act like one."
3 Segment: Snapshot & Pair-Share
15-25 MIN
Focus: Students write and share their personal school-influence connections.
DO: Distribute and monitor the Identity Snapshot Sheet. Then pair up students using Slide 5.
SAY: "Write down two specific identity facets. Then, tell your partner exactly how that self-perception drives a real school choice you make, like sitting with someone new or finishing your projects."
4 Segment: The Trust Anchor
25-30 MIN
Focus: Align self-honesty with interpersonal trustworthiness.
DO: Project Slide 6. Ask for 2-3 volunteers to share insights. Connect self-honesty to integrity.
SAY: "If you lie to yourself about your limits or your values, you can't be real with anyone else. Trustworthiness starts when you look in the mirror and accept who you are. When your actions line up with your internal identity, people know they can rely on you."
Red Flags to Watch For
Students might select emojis or reputation words strictly to make peers laugh. Keep the tone focused and guide them to identify at least one genuine internal value.
Middle School Pacing Tip
If the "Pair-Share Mirror" stalls, prompt them with: "What do you do when a project gets hard? How does your view of yourself affect that?"
