Pro-Tips for Calm
Setting the Environment
Dim the lights and minimize noise before starting the Guided Meditation. If you have a chime or a soft bell, use it to signal the start and end of the practice. 3rd graders respond well to consistent sensory cues.
Handling the "Giggles"
It's normal for students to giggle or peek when they first close their eyes. Acknowledge it gently: "If you feel like giggling, that's okay! Just take a breath and see if you can find your calm again." Don't force eyes shut; some students feel safer with a "soft gaze" at their desk.
Closure (5 Mins)
Recap the importance of mindfulness and how they can use these techniques anytime they feel stressed or need to focus.
"Remember, this calm place is always inside you. You can visit it during a test, before a big game, or when you're feeling frustrated at home."

Facilitator Notes
Read the following script in a slow, steady, and soothing voice. Pause for 3-5 seconds wherever you see an ellipsis (...). If students seem restless, keep your tone even and calm to help ground them.
"Sit comfortably in your chair or on the floor. Let your hands rest softly in your lap, like two quiet birds... When you are ready, gently close your eyes, or look softly down at your desk."
"Take a deep breath in through your nose, feeling your chest grow tall... and slowly let it out through your mouth, like you are blowing through a straw... Let’s do that one more time. Deep breath in... and a long breath out."
"Imagine a warm, golden light starting at the very top of your head. It feels soft and cozy, like sunshine on a spring day... As this light touches your forehead, your face feels relaxed. Your jaw becomes loose... The light moves down to your shoulders. Feel them drop away from your ears, becoming heavy and soft."
"The warm light travels down your arms, all the way to your fingertips... then down through your tummy... and all the way down your legs to your toes. Your whole body feels calm, peaceful, and still... like a quiet lake."
"Continue to breathe slowly. If a thought pops into your head, just imagine it’s a little cloud floating by in the sky... You don't need to follow it. Just stay here, in your calm, golden place... breathing in... and breathing out."
"Now, slowly start to wiggle your fingers and toes... Give your shoulders a little shrug... And when you’re ready, gently open your eyes and bring this feeling of calm back into the room with you."

Find Your Calm Energy
"Just like a remote control for your brain, this breathing exercise helps you pause, relax, and focus whenever you need it."
1
Inhale (Breathe In)
Close your eyes. Breathe in slowly through your nose while counting to 4.
2
Hold
Hold that breath in your lungs while you count to 7. Keep your body still.
3
Exhale (Breathe Out)
Slowly blow all the air out through your mouth while you count to 8.
Repeat the Cycle
Try doing this 3 or 4 times in a row. You will feel your heart slow down and your mind feel clear!
Inner Weather Worksheet Inner Weather Reflection
Checking in with myself...

How did your body and mind feel? Were you tired, excited, worried, or busy?
AFTER the exercises
How do you feel now? Did your "inner weather" change to sunny, calm, or still?
My Calm Place

Mindful Tip
Whenever you feel a "storm" coming in your head, remember your breathing. You can find your calm place anytime just by closing your eyes and taking 3 deep breaths.
