Facilitation Roadmap
Step 1: Establishing Safety & Slide Intro 10 Minutes
Open the session by setting expectations of safety. Use the Kindness Echo Slide Deck to introduce the concepts of "Active Listening" and "Immediate Safety". Explain that this room is an echo chamber—only warmth and positive energy can reverberate here.
Facilitator Prompt Script
"Welcome, friends. In this small circle, we have a superpower: whatever kind words we send out, they echo and bounce right back to us. Today, we are going to learn how to be super-listeners. That means listening with our ears, our eyes, and our hearts."
Unit: Social Cohesion & Support Page 1 of 2
Facilitation continued
Step 2: The Kindness Echo Game 15 Minutes
Distribute character strength and kindness prompts from the Kindness Echo Game Cards . Let students pick a card or select one for them. Students will practice reading the card prompt, identifying a peer it applies to, and speaking it aloud. The receiving student must "echo" the kind feeling back by saying how it felt to hear it.
Game Orchestration Tip
"Watch closely. When Player A gives Player B a positive affirmation, Player B repeats the core word back ('I echo that I am a helpful friend!') to practice accepting kindness. This builds immediate, validated safety in our small-group circle."
Step 3: Journal Reflection & Integration 10 Minutes
Hand out the Kindness Echo Student Journal . Give students quiet time to draw and write. For younger students (K-1), assist with spelling or invite them to draw their "kindness superpower" while older students write comprehensive reflections.
Integration Highlight
"Look for students highlighting specific active listening skills in their journal (e.g. eye contact, nod of agreement, feeling warm). Ensure a quiet, respectful atmosphere during this creative integration period."
Step 4: Cool-Down & Reflection 5 Minutes
Conduct a quick breathing/relaxation loop (inhale kindness, exhale tension). Have students complete the Kindness Echo Reflection exit ticket, giving you invaluable insights into how safe each child felt during today's small-group journey.
Facilitator Coaching & Troubleshooting
If a student struggles to participate:
Provide visual cues or a physical talking object. Allow them to point or select an emoji on the slides to showcase their current emotional state before speaking.
If the room gets overly excited:
Use the "Echo Whisper" rule: students must speak their kind words in a theatrical whisper, encouraging others to quiet down to catch every precious word.
