Step 1: Crew Huddle & Pledge
Intro
Gather students to the rug. Tell them they are joining the Kindness Crew! Teach the Crew Pledge with hand gestures: "I have helpful hands, a caring heart, and I always do my part!"
Mins
3-7
Step 2: Skill 1 - "Join In!" (Include)
Practice
Use Puppet A (sitting alone with a toy block) and Puppet B. Show Puppet B walking up, waving, and saying: "Do you want to play with me?" Have all students wave and echo the words in a cheerful voice!
Mins
7-11
Step 3: Skill 2 - "Hooray!" (Cheer)
Practice
Tell a quick story: Puppet A is trying to build a tall tower of blocks but it falls down! Ask: "What does the Kindness Crew do?" Teach them the "Nice Try!" cheer. Have kids clap and say: "Good try! You can do it!"
Mins
11-14
Step 4: Skill 3 - "Are You Okay?" (Empathy)
Practice
Show Puppet A looking sad/crying because they dropped their crayon. Teach students to look at the puppet's face. Practice the kind phrase: "Are you okay? I can help!" Model passing a crayon back with a smile.
Pro-Tips for Active Engagement
The Power of Puppets: Kindergarteners connect immediately to characters. Giving puppets names like "Silly Sam" or "Bella Bear" increases focus.
Immediate Praise: Spot students doing these behaviors during center time today and award a "Kindness Crew Medal" or high-five!
