Facilitator Script & Assessment
Best practice guidelines and observation tools for active teacher involvement.
The Teacher Facilitation Script
Setup: "Today, we are going to activate our big imaginations. I will read a special sentence starter, and we will spark some magic. Let’s take a deep breath. Imagine your ideas floating inside your head..."
Think Time: "Now, lock your lips! We need 60 seconds of complete quiet. Let the picture of your answer paint itself in your mind. Go!"
Partner Talk: "Turn knee-to-knee and eye-to-eye with your partner. Partner A, you will share first. Partner B, look at them and listen with open ears. Switch when you hear the chime!"
Teacher Connection Tip: Always share your own response first to make sharing feel safe. For example: "If I were an animal, I would be a dolphin because I love swimming in the blue ocean with my family!"
Optional Creative Extensions
1. Bulletin Board Showcase
Gather the worksheets and mount them on a high-traffic classroom wall titled "Our Big Ideas" or "Imagine If..." . Rotate sheets weekly.
2. "Class Circle Book"
Bind students' completed prompt sheets together to create an ongoing classroom anthology. Keep it in the reading corner for students to read and feel proud of.
SEL Skill Observation Rubric
Use this checklist during sharing to monitor progress of oral language and relationship building.
Focus Skill Emerging (1 pt) Developing (2 pts) Proficient (3 pts) Active Listening Distracted; does not make eye contact or respond to partner. Listens quietly but does not acknowledge or comment. Faces partner directly; nods; asks a curious follow-up question. Expressive Sharing Needs heavy prompting; speaks in single words or shrugs. Finishes the sentence starter using simple phrasing. Expands on prompt with clear reasons using "because" naturally. Community Care Interrupts others or mocks unique responses. Stays respectful but keeps to own social circle. Encourages peers; celebrates similarities and diverse ideas.
