Why This Lesson?
In this lesson, students will collaborate in pairs or small groups to create holiday cards for their favorite teacher, staff member, or school community helper. This activity encourages students to express appreciation creatively and fosters a sense of gratitude and teamwork. It is important as it helps students develop social-emotional skills and strengthens community bonds within the school.

"Pre-cut the card templates if students need help with folding or cutting. Identify a few 'school heroes' (custodians, office staff, bus drivers) who might appreciate a surprise card!"
Instructional Steps

Introduction
5 Minutes
- Begin by discussing the importance of showing appreciation and gratitude.
- Ask: "Who are some people at school who help us every day?"
- Explain that students will be creating holiday cards for someone special in the school community.

Group Formation
5 Minutes
- Organize students into pairs or small groups (3-4 students).
- Ensure each group has access to the necessary materials.
- Set the "Teamwork Rule": Everyone must contribute at least one drawing or word to the card.

Card Creation
15 Minutes
- Allow groups to brainstorm: "Who are we making this for? What should we say?"
- Encourage students to use stickers and colors to make it festive.
- Circulate to provide assistance with spelling or sharing materials.

Reflection & Sharing
5 Minutes
- Gather students to briefly show their cards to the class.
- Discuss: "How did it feel to create something for someone else?"
- Ask: "How did you work together as a team?"
- Close by planning a time to deliver the cards.
