Facilitator Discussion Guide
Purpose
Guide students through the Miracle Question exercise, helping them envision their desired future in vivid detail and prepare to translate that vision into concrete steps.
Group Norms
• Confidentiality: What's shared stays here.
• Respect: Listen without interruption.
• Strengths: Focus on solutions and possibilities.
• Detail: Encourage sensory descriptions.
Step 1 & 2 7 Min
The Visioning
Facilitator Script:
"Imagine that while you slept tonight, a miracle happened, and your personal goal was fully achieved. When you wake up tomorrow, what would you notice first? What would you see, hear, or feel that tells you your goal is already done?"
Allow 30 seconds of absolute silence for visualization.
Direct students to Section 1 of the Goal Mapping Template .
Step 3 3 Min
Guided Follow-Up
Use these prompts to deepen the vision:
What do you see first? (people, setting, objects)
What sounds or conversations are happening?
How does your body feel in this moment?
Step 4 & 5 5 Min
Sharing & Reflection
Pair-Share: Each student gets 2 minutes to share their vision while their partner listens for one "vivid detail."
Group Debrief: Invite 2–3 pairs to share a key insight. Ask the group: "What small sign stood out most across these visions?"
Facilitator Pro-Tips
Timing
Keep each section moving. The visioning is the spark, but the mapping (next) is where the work happens.
Equity
Gently invite quieter students to share. Use pair-sharing as a "low stakes" way to get everyone talking.
Encourage Detail
If a vision is too general ("I'd be happy"), ask: "How would we know you're happy? What does that look like on your face?"
Positive Reinforcement
Always pivot back to "what works." This session is about possibilities, not barriers.
