A Story About Alex's Brave Brain
👋
Hi! My name is Alex , and I am in first grade. I love going to school and learning new things! Sometimes, when I am working on my math or reading, my friends might be talking or moving around.
💭
One day, I was trying to finish a tricky math worksheet. My friend, Leo, started telling a funny story to our other friend, Mia. I really wanted to listen to Leo's story, and my eyes kept looking over at them.
My brain had two thoughts:
"Leo's story sounds so fun!"
"I need to finish my math!"
⚡
I remembered what my teacher said about using my "focus superpower." My focus superpower helps me keep my eyes and brain on my work, even when there are fun things happening around me.
↩️
First, I gently turned my body a little bit away from Leo and Mia. This helped my eyes look at my paper instead of at them.
🗣️
Then, I said to myself, in my quiet inside voice , "Focus on math, Alex! You can do it!" It was like a little reminder just for my brain.
✅
I took a deep breath and looked at my math problem. It was still tricky, but because I was focusing, I could think harder. Soon, I figured out the answer!
🌟
When I finished my worksheet, I felt so proud! I had used my focus superpower to stay on task. Now, I could quietly ask Leo about his funny story during break time.
Sometimes it's still hard, but I know that every time I practice, my focus superpower gets stronger and stronger!
Discussion Point: How did Alex feel when the work was done?
