15 MINUTES
Learning Goal
Students will use the 1-5 Feelings Forecast scale to identify the intensity of their emotions and select an appropriate self-regulation strategy.
Pacing Guide
3 MIN
Morning Report
Gather students in a circle. Ask: "What is your internal weather right now? Is it sunny (Level 2), or a bit cloudy (Level 3)?" Have them show their Level number with their fingers on their chest.
5 MIN
Forecast Predictions
Present a scenario (e.g., "Imagine we had an extra 10 minutes of recess"). Ask students to predict their level change. Discuss how weather can change quickly but we have tools to manage it.
5 MIN
Toolbox Check
Review the strategies on the poster. Practice one strategy as a whole group, such as "Cloudy Reset" (deep breathing) or "Chill Wake Up" (standing stretches).
2 MIN
The Goal
Remind students that our goal isn't to be "Level 2" all day—it's to notice when our weather changes and use our tools to get back to our learning zone.
Key Phrases
"Check your forecast."
"What level are you feeling?"
"What tool can help you reset?"
Differentiation
For students who struggle with abstract metaphors, focus on the physical sensations (e.g., Level 5 feels like a racing heart or tight fists).
